“London's Hidden Gem - Keep it a secret, I want to be able to return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

Well this is a hidden gem. Stuck away in Camberwell this bright and quirky hotel, with amazing tapas restaurant, blew our socks off. The room, designed with meticulous attention to traditional Spanish / Mexican design is unique. No cloned designs here. An amazingly comfortable bed, lovely crisp linen and nice touches, such as complimentary chocolate and still water, made the whole experience memorable. Add to that very helpful and friendly staff, we have been raving about our visit to anyone who would listen. One point to watch though, no lift and a warren of stairs to reach the rooms so any one with mobility problems may have difficulties.
The restaurant was wonderful, and very busy. Amazing tapas menu, and delicious and reasonably priced food, certainly for London. well worth a night out even of you are not staying.

Room Tip: Careful if you have mobility problems - lots of stairs and no lift.

Absolut fantastic hotel. The rooms are amazing (each room is decorated in a different way) with brillant beds. But pay attention: If you enter this hotel you need a GPS to find your room though they have only 33 rooms. But it's so full of nooks and crannies. Very very clean and high quality complimentary shampoo, shower gel and body milk. Also you have free WiFi access, a bottle of water, a small tablet of chocolate and a tiny glass of handmade spicy spread. Additional the have a lounge where you can take whisky, rum, wine and other spirits. you only note this on a sheet of paper and they charge it next day to your room. Tea and coffee are always complimentary. You also have a blue-ray player in your room and in the lounge there is a wide range of DVDs you can lend for free. Breakfast is included in the room rate and admirable: biological eggs, fresh baked wholemeal bread and croissants as well as handmade marmelades. Directly fresh squeezes orange juice ans smoothies together with organic yoghurt and biological coffee and tea. Last but not least parink is free (parking is maybe a few hundred yards away). Extremely helpful and friendly staff. And the best is their award winning restaurant "Angels and Gypsies" (see my separate rewiew)

Room Tip: Doesn't matter, each room is unique

I stayed here while visiting some friends in London. They were staying at the Hilton and said that, of course, it is nice there but they had to pay extra for absolutely everything. Well, at the church street hotel, you have wifi, a beautifully decorated room, free organic chocolate, hot sauce, bottled water, and an incredible and healthy breakfast. For the price and the convenient location, this cannot be beat. It was a pleasure to take the bus to get around for a change. I always knew where I was instead of walking out of a stuffy, dank tube station and feeling totally lost.

The Church Street Hotel was a true find. The room I had was at the top of the building with a view out over the rooftops. Despite being above a major road, it was very quiet. The bed was comfortable. While the room was small, it was attractive and fully appointed. There was a chocolate bar every night and a bottle of water. The continental breakfast was great, croissants, Neal's Yard yogurt, soft boiled eggs and toast. The juice was fresh squeezed. The staff was very helpful and anything I needed was taken care of promptly. It was also conveniently located many major bus routes and just a short bus ride to the Underground. One caveat is that it has no elevator and so if you are on the upper floors, it's a lot of stairs.

Room Tip: The higher up you are the quieter it will be.

Having stayed at this hotel for 12 weeks, 4 nights per week,I can heartily recommend it.

There is nothing to fault, the staff are wonderful, rooms excellent, good continental breakfast, endless free tea and coffee and great value for money.

The location is spot on for travelling into central London too, although Camberwell has a wide variety of restaurants and bars, which are all very good.

We were happy to find an hotel near Dulwich (surely the worst London suburb for paucity of choice in the hotel and decent b&b sector).
The Church Street Hotel is easy to find, 5 minutes walk from the busy crossroads at Camberwell where you can get buses to pretty much everywhere in London.
Our one night stay was enriched by an excellent supper at the restaurant "Angels & Gypsies", connected, I believe, and possibly, co-owned by the same people.
The breakfast choice was very poor indeed, limited to a boiled egg, and toast. There were some cereals, yoghurts, and juices, but no fruit. The bread we recognised from supper the night before, and it was a threat to teeth and gums.
All in all, a surprisingly Curates Egg of a place really, good in parts. We may stay there again, but we will be buying fresh fruit the day before to take down to breakfast to supplement the prisoner's rations.
I did mention the breakfast when checking out, and the perfectly pleasant receptionist said she would mention it to the manager.

Room Tip: Room 12 is at the back and was quiet.

We spent a long weekend at this fab hotel and enjoyed every bit of it. We found the bus connections superb and enjoyed exploring London from the top deck of a doubledecker. The staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful; breakfast and dinner were both brilliant.
