“It's a hovel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012 via mobile

We didn't expect much for £140 during the Olympics but we did expect more than this. We were in a small, hot, shabby room on the 4th floor. For the 'en suite' premium, we got something that resembled a portaloo with a shower crammed in. The curtains were hanging off the rail, the towels sheets and bed were a bit dodgy and to top it all off, there were ants crawling all over the place. Steer clear!

Me and my friend stayed here on 3/7/12 and I don't even know how to begin describing our stay. We had phoned up previously to check the price of the room and it was confirmed that we would be paying £60 for the both of us. When we arrived, the man behind the desk tried charging us £104! After the issue was solved, we were showed to our room which can only be described as a prison cell. It was a bed, a piece of wood bolted in the wall to hang your clothes on and a sink. It was unbearably hot in the room and because there was work being done on the hotel, people were standing outside our window talking so we couldn't even open it. The one time we did open the window, them lady who I assume is an owner, came and closed it! We had to walk up the floor so use the communal toilet which is insane and if anyone was having breakfast in any other hotel around, they could see you on the toilet! The staff were horribly rude, I have never encountered such bad customer service before from anywhere! We turned up for breakfast at 9:02 and we were shouted at because the breakfast is only served until 9 and they refused to serve us. How this hotel is still running is completely beyond me. These people deserve no trade whatsoever and I will make sure that nobody I know ever stays in such a god forbidden place!

We were sucked in by the "Top Choice" "Best Offer" stickers on Travelstay, com and failed to read the terrible reviews of Romanos below. Great Location but otherwise, you can do better even in a one star Hotel. My son stayed here last night in a double room with private bath and was underwhelmed starting with the tacky leopard bedspread and bad smell of the place, like cooked meat of some kind. However, despite the depressing surroundings, he slept well and only stayed for about 8 hours in total. Read Reviews in advance...lesson learned.

While this hotel is far from recommendable in the first place, the offer to avoid at all costs is the „basic“ double. While it might seem like a somewhat good deal in comparison to other hotels' prices in the area (location being the only really good thing about Romanos), no savings can make up for this experience.

Our room was located in the basement and seemed quite obviously to be an old storage room quickly converted into a hotel room. Even in the hot weather in London during our stay, the room was always cold and damp, with the bed feeling almost wet. A look at the ceiling and inside the drawer (the only piece of furniture in the room apart form the bed) confirms: a perfect climate for mold. Adding to this assault on your health, overall hygiene standards are nothing short of shocking: thick layers of dust and a carpet about two hundred years old provided the entree. I next found an abandoned box of cookies complete with remains of its content half buried under the bed (“half”, mind you, it should have been visible to anyone cleaning a room), with ants crawling in it. Upon showing this nice finding to the lady at the reception, she didn't even appear too shocked, replying that she can only tell the cleaning lady to do her job better. She also promised the room would be clean when we're back, though nothing really happened. Ants became staying visitors to the room. We were eventually offered to move to a different room, but since those rooms were ensuite we would have had to pay some serious cash on top of what's already too much for a dump like this.

Speaking of the reception, staff was generally rude, spoke bad English and made sure we didn't feel welcome. Our request to turn the heating on since our room was so cold was met with discussions several times instead of just trying to make the stay somewhat comfortable for the customer.

If you do menage to sleep through the noise over your head, there was a good chance of waking up to the fire alarm going off almost every morning due to smoke in the kitchen.

As a side note, WLAN costs 5£ extra per stay and often hardly works at all except for the reception, which offers two chairs in the company of said staff. Nice.

If I were to name the few positive things, shared toilets and showers were relatively clean, though there was a mat in front of the showers that I wouldn't want to touch with my skin, and toilet didn't always flush on first try. And breakfast was as simple and cheap as it gets with an egg, toast and instant coffee, but at least nothing was rotten. There also was a TV and a sink in the room for your comfort. Cheers.

Overall, lacking cleanliness and terrible staff make this one hotel to stay away from, but for true horror you need to see the basic room in the basement. The fact that they have a TripAdvisor-sticker on their door is almost too funny! Absolutely awful place that doesn't deserve your money.

this has got to be the most overpriced hotel i have ever stayed in i have just got back from a 1 night stay and believe me that was too long the room was very small and dingey the bathroom was ridiculously small and im only 5ft 2 anybody taller would have no chance the so called dining room was a joke the tables were fold up camping tables. The best is they were charging £169.00 a night luckily my sister booked it through hotel beds.com and we only paid half the price i definitely would not recommend this hotel even if u are on a budget . the only plus side was the location for victoria appllo theatre.

I was there in March 2011, in 5 bed room with my frineds. We payed 20€ each/per night and for that price I am very satisfied. The room was clean, the bathrom was clean (also very small because all of my frineds, including me, were playing basketball and each of us is 2m tall). We used room just for sleeping and breakfast ( which is a little bit parsimonius). The room service was good because every time we came back to room it was all clean and fixed.
All I can say is that for the price that we payed it's a very good place to stay (at least our room was) especially if you're using a room like we did, just for sleep, eat something in the morning and leave the things you bought.
