“Good alternative to the chains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012 via mobile

Very pleasant stay. The location - near the Oval - was perfect for us but handy for central London as well.
The room was of a reasonable size and well kept. My one negative comment is that the windows and frames are grubby.

Otherwise - recommended.

I chose this hotel purely on location - my customr is nearby, but I've just booked my third week there. No frills, but what they offer works. The rooms at the back are quieter than the front, and the aircraft can be noisey, but then anywhere in that part of london would suffer the same.

The Oval Lounge directly across the road is a nice place to eat, but it's menu doesn;t change often!

Do not be put off by the outside. We were delighted with the cleanliness and friendly atmosphere inside this budget hotel. Small and basic as to be expected at this price, but with pleasant surprises like the shiny bathroom - and go careful in the shower if you love the skin you're in - serious power shower! Personally I loved it. Breakfast was also better than expected with no shortage of cereals, jams, toast, boiled eggs, and a great help yourself coffee machine. Location is brilliant with the Oval tube just across the road. That allowed us to get a days travel to all of the sights quickly and easily for just £7 each - bargain. No meals other than breakfast in the hotel, but some good bars, pubs, and restaurants all in easy walking distance. Planes overhead make the whole area noisy, but that's not the hotels fault, and earplugs cured it - comfortable bed made for a good nights rest. All in all a good weekend made better by this friendly and convenient, and very reasonably priced, hotel. It's not 5 star of course, but I give 5 stars because it is excellent in this range. We'll be staying again later this year.

Room Tip: Busy main road at front so ask for a double at the back - twins are all at the front. View of an all...

What I liked about the Belgrave is that it is in a brilliant location just a few
yards from the Oval tube and the staff are so helpful and friendly .We had to leave very early no problem with breakfast they just sorted it for us - rooms although basic were very well finished and very clean etc...
I used the car park - very secure .

Room Tip: Do not expect the Ritz but the room we had - all the basic things you need - a good bathroom - comfo...

Stayed for a week during the christmas break. reserved two rooms. room and bathroom were clean, beds comfortable and great showers. breaksfast is served every morning (continental) although they will serve eggs if requested. hotel is located a two minute walk from the oval tube station so really convenient. good pubs and restaurants are a short five to ten minute walk. flat screen tvs in the room with sky so lots of channels including sports. front desk staff were friendly and helpful. they have free wifi. reception was good in one of our rooms; not that good in the other.

Was very pleasantly suprised. Overall an excellent over night stay ,clean , warm , and freindly service most welcoming. The rooms are not massive but reasonable and with SKYSPORTS 1 2 Clean and warm interior the feelings good. The hotel staff very helpfull . Didnt have to wait to get in at the front door in the early hours of New years day 2012. Parking at the back of HOTEL bit of a small area but was exceptable and convienent concidering the time i had to find else were would of possibly cost more and taken time to find being new to the area. The showers are lovely ,no water coming on to the floor like some hotel rooms wich is a pain especially when you get dressed and your soaks get wet when you keep goin in the bathroom to spruce youre self up on occassions to get ready for youre night out. The beds were very very comfy lots of spring in them very pleasnat nights sleep. Some beds can be a bit to solid.. The central heating i put on in the room was put on immediately as the hotel bedroom window was open and there was a bit of a chill in the room. The room soon heated up and in the middle of the night had to turn it of as the room was very warm . Good for a winters night most pleasing. When we awoke i realised Breakfast was served untill 10:30am and we didnt depart our room untill 11:30am as it was new years day and had a late night. On our way to the car to put my beloning back for our return journey home the Hotel Manager very well spoken ask us if we had enjoyed our stay and if we had had breakfast. Wich we oviuosly answerd no bit of a late one last night. He then kindly escorted us to a small and clean dining area and seated us and said it would be ok to have breakfast ,coffee , tea and frshly squeezed orange juice , cereals.. fruit.. We were delighted to say the least and and soon sat down and enduldged in a tasty Fry up and Bacon,Sausage,Mushroom, etc . Coffe tea orange juice what a star.. Our stay here was NONE SHORT OF Excellenct Customer Servive and warm very clean and helpfull polite staff wich in my books is all you need for a great stay.Recommend here to any one who is wanting comfort and nice chilling time..

We stayed here for NYE and somewhere to crash after a night at Brixton Academy. It's close to Brixton and literally a 2 minute walk from Oval Tube Station.
The outside looks a bit shabby, but inside it's clean, safe and everything you need. There's a bed, a toilet and a shower. That's all we needed for the night! Would definitely return.
Very reasonable price for London, especially NYE!
Only thing I would say is the hotel needs a bar!
