“Ravna Gorey Truth”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

Booked the basic quadruple room. By basic I assumed no frills but the short head had no useful holder making showering very difficult, skirting boards falling off, floor tiles dangerously chipped, no fire escape signs etc, 1 half used toilet roll in room of really poor thin quality, the full English breakfast turned out to be value continental. ... oh and three cold water tap on our sink didn't work at all so the night reception begrudgingly gave us (2 adults 2 children) one 500ml bottle of water.
Reception blamed breakfast on booking.com getting it wrong.

The breeds and pillows were OK and the hotel its in a good position but for £108 I expect better!

Looks can be decieving! The Ravna Gora is clearly in the middle of a top down refurb - make sure if you do stay, you are at the top! Our room (17 top floor) was actually quite nice, but there were no tea or coffee making facilities. We booked with a full English breakfast included, which was described as excellent - HA! I am not sure quite what black hole I must have slipped down when I was looking through the reviews to check up on this place, usually I am a lot better at avoiding disaster zones! Breakfast was a Lidl fueled processed nightmare! The cheapest possible, lowest quality versions of everything, in small quanitities, not in any way open for discussion! For two people, you recieve the following: 4 slices of white toast, packet spreads and jams, 2 slices each of processed ham and cheese, 2 bananas, 2 pre decanted bowls of cornflakes (small) and tea or coffee. Do not come here if you have any special dietary requirements/tastebuds as they are not able to cater for your needs at all. When I complained on check out, my initial request for a refund was refused. Then after a lengthy discussion, I managed to achieve a £10 reduction, to cover the two absent 'excellent' full English breakfasts as advertised, as we had 'had some breakfast'. The owner was adament that my request for a £20 refund to cover two cooked breakfasts in central London was ridiculous and he could 'buy a cooked breakfast in Notting Hill for £1.50', my response was 'in that case, crack on and start serving it to your guests! I am sure they will leave a lot happier!' AVOID! unless on a room only basis for a short stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the top floor. The further down you go, the worse it gets!

This was by far the worst 'hotel' I've ever came across as a tourist. It was such a disappointment from the moment I set foot into the hotel till my last stay.

Staff: Was unhelpful. When my family and I rang the doorbell, a guy came out, opened the door and left it there for us to struggle with our luggages at the same time help ourselves with the door. Very unwelcoming guy, such a turn-off, really.

Amenities: The piano sounded so broken and sad, made me wonder how long ago the last service was done for this little man.

The elevator was seriously horrible. It was small, could allow 2 to 3 people in the lift at a time. And please, it takes forever to reach the top floor and back down. The best part was, your finger needs to keep pressing the buttons, as long as you haven't reached your floor.

Room: My room back at home is honestly bigger than this 'hotel room'. It had a sink in it, which was choked, and water couldn't flow down. Seriously, wasn't any checks or service done to maintain this hotel? We couldn't find the toilet. And surprise! The toilet was outside our room, next to the elevator. That's still not bad. But we had our concerns. It was very inconvenient for someone who frequents the toilet at night and had to go in and out of the room just to get to the toilet. And if there are unforeseen circumstances which could happen, who would be accountable for? The manager? Come on, he couldn't even spare us a smile!

The lock for the door was jammed and was lose! Security was not there and all I could think of was, what will happen if someone is able to pry open this door in the middle of the night? Safety was an issue for us as well.

The toilet was a mess. We paid about SGD $700 for a room at this hotel. I admit, for a place in London, guess we couldn't expect many nice amenities for that price. But we really did not see this coming at all. The sink and toilet bowls were choked, not to mention all the awesome chocolates I found in there. The flush was not working! The lights were even spoilt.

We finally decided and told them, 'you know what, I'm just going to forget about all the money we forked out for this room, we're leaving and getting another hotel.' We were being stopped by them and they offered us a 4-star room and insisted us to take it. We had to pay an additional SGD $343. At this point, we just couldn't care how much the price was, we just wanted a better room. But honestly, there were better rooms out there in London which you can get with a total of SGD $1043, for example Holiday Inn, which is a well-established hotel.

So we got the room, not bad-looking but still, unappealing to us.

Somehow the hotel made us want to expedite our stay in London and made us have this mindset of returning to our country AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It's just atrocious, really. For the price of what we paid, we could at least get a decent room at a luxurious, world-class hotel. For example, the newly-built Bay Sands in Singapore. London was well-known for its expensive and beautiful buildings and monuments, yet they brought their image to the lowest standard with this kind of accommodation, it's really a HUGE disappointment.

For all families out there, this is totally an inconvenient place for you to stay, especially those with big families and kids. It would be a hassle for you.

For couples who intend to have a short stay, well it might not be a problem but yea, not a romantic environment to begin with.

I am definitely not returning to this slum ever again.

Been coming here for a few years.
Hotel has recently been refurbed to a very high standard, 3rd floor.
Underground station is about 300meters accross the road, Central Line.
There are quite a few good bars and cafes around it.

Staff are friendly and always willing to help.

This "hotel" is truly appalling and a massive disappointment, dirty, ill maintained and run by people who must have missed their customer service training. They are clearly trading on one time visitors and can't possibly have any returning customers. The negative comments about this place in the other reviews (dirty rooms & toilets, unconcerned apathetic staff, poor fittings, potentially dangerous electricals) mirror our experiences, we are only glad that we left after checking in and getting no adequate responses to our concerns other than the receptionist saying " you are only here for one night, you'll survive" her comments show the apathy of the staff and sum up the place, please don't stay here folks.

From the itchy blanket instead of a duvet, the broken light fittings and cheese for breakfast to the penguin poster pinned to our wall as art and the lack of tea making facilities in rooms, the Ravna Gora really is something special and not in a good way! We definitely won't be staying again!

Room Tip: Don't bother booking unless desperate!
