We travel to London each year with my now octogenarian mother for shopping, shows, and dining, and really just to enjoy and spend time in wonderful vibrant London. As our choice of hotel from the year before was a little on the pricey side this year, given its excellent reviews on Trip Advisor, we opted for the Montagu Place as a replacement. We were not disappointed. It is a boutique hotel which is excellently located, with well appointed rooms, that are modern but really quite cosy, and has a friendly and accommodating staff.
From our point of view the location of the hotel is perfect, within easy walking distance of Oxford Street for shopping, and within a short taxi ride of the shows and museums. Marylebone is a blended residential shopping district that feels nicely old-world and authentic. There are plenty of coffee shops, small restaurants and my personal favourite Daunt Books, a fabulous bookshop that organizes books by country, perfect for those who like to travel. A rather unique and unusual experience 'enjoyed' by us was a Latin Mass (I am not religious but the music is wonderful and the experience can transport you centuries into the past). That can be found on Sunday's in St. James's Roman Catholic Church in Spanish Place, followed by a good breakfast of eggs benedict and coffee, together with a paper in one of the eateries around the corner.
Back to the hotel; we were delighted with the quality of both our rooms which were adjoining but unconnected. The standard of furnishings was very good, and both rooms were amply sized, with our Swanky room (their name not ours) towards the front of the hotel being generously larger. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and though they seem to rotate a lot, each and everyone was particularly kind and considerate. As an example of this: Arriving late after a show on the Saturday night, and being very hungry due to an omission by me to organise a restaurant in advance, one of the late night staff (a budding actor to be) did his best to find us a restaurant. When that was unsuccessful (it was close to midnight after all), he prepared an evening meal of breads, meats and cheeses, which we enjoyed along with his company, and several laughs. It really added to our visit.
So in summary, the Montagu Place Hotel is a great little hotel in a central location, with friendly and helpful staff. We were very pleased with our choice, so much so, we are planning to return there again next year.
