We were offered a free weekend stay at the Chiswick Moran hotel after my partner got food poisoning from the Crown Moran in Cricklewood. We thought we would give the Moran chain another chance, even though the last stay was pretty tainted.
The first issue we came across was that there was no walk-in shower, like it says on their website. The room was small and they were charging £3.50 per bottle of water in the room (as well as charging for wi-fi!). This was something we could deal with, as we're really not as fussy as it may seem.
We went to the restaurant on the Friday evening and I ordered a tuna steak with crushed potatoes in a sauce. The tuna was sat on potatoes and salmon (not mentioned on the menu) which I am extremely allergic too. It's lucky my partner noticed or I would have been VERY ill. Luckily they swapped it over, but didn't really have much in the way of an apology.
We went back up to our room after a brief drink in the busy Globe bar and I ordered a chocolate brownie for my pudding. My partner paid in cash for the room service but I thought we had best just check that it was fine to do so by calling reception. Reception had no record of money being given in and asked who bought our (very dry and disgusting £6) brownie up. My partner described her and at about 11pm we had a knock on the door. It was the duty manager along with the girl who had bought up our brownie. She was adamant my partner hadn't paid her (he'd given her £10 and told her to keep the £4 as a tip) and was lying to his face, in front of the duty manager. Eventually the duty manager, without much of an apology, said he would take it off our bill.
Saturday came and we went out into London town. After going to see Jersey Boys (amazing!) we got back to the hotel in anticipation of a nice night cap, as we hadn't wanted to drink at the theatre. We got to the bar and there was a sign on the door saying it was a private party. With no other bar in the hotel we asked reception where we could get a drink. The man told us we could walk for about 10 minutes down the road, to a pub which would close in about half an hour. Or we could order overpriced room service.
We opted for room service as we were also hungry by this point. I had a cheese and tomato sandwich which felt like it had been frozen and defrosted. It was cold, tasteless, soggy and tasted stale. My partner had a tomato pasta which was completely flavourless and dry. That food cost us £24...
The Moran were supposed to be doing everything they could to save this reputation on this trip, but after a staff member tried stealing from us, the restaurant nearly poisoning us, unapologetic staff and their 'World famous cocktail bar' being shut on a Saturday evening, I'd say they just managed to ruin their rep even further,
