“Impressive hotel and location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

My wife and I were very impressed with the hotel. It's location is fantastic, right opposite St Paul's Cathedral. We booked the hotel through Secret Hotels on lastminute.com and we received a standard double room which was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The huge bed was very comfortable and we both slept soundly despite being on the ground floor as it was so quiet. We also had access to the spa which was fantastic! There is a pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. It was bliss and we highly recommend it.

We cannot comment on the breakfast as it was not included in our booking and it was an additional £25 per person if we wished to add it to our booking. We did not pay this as we deemed it far too much to pay for breakfast.

My only criticism throughout our stay would be the 'croque-monsieur' sandwich I ordered from room service. It was awful. It was tasteless and looked completely unappealing! We had to send it straight back and it was taken off our bill.

Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend this hotel.

My husband surprised me here for our anniversary. Had a great night, gorgeous hotel, the staff were really helpful and kind. They tried to upgrade us when they realised it was our anniversary, but unfortunately there was nothing better, however my husband said they had already upgraded us to the room we were in, so went out of their way to help.

We also got a delivery of a chocolate platter to our room, which was a really thoughtful touch. The curtains were nice and dark so a great sleep, would 100% recommend!

Stayed here midweek for business and on a deal rate of £169 excluding breakfast.
Room had beautiful curtains and fixtures, but was visible to the office across the road. Tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary bathroom products were of a high standard. Bathroom of good quality and clean. Room itself an average size for central London.
Evening meal was of good quality and average price, but both restaurants are over downstairs bars. One was full of EMEA sales personnel and the other of normal evening business people making upstairs dining quite noisy. Breakfast at £23 was expensive and pastries, though kept hot were dried out. Signing out involved a long queue with only two persons on reception at the morning prime check out time. I would not stay here at full price and would not purchase the additional breakfast again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing over the internal atrium are more private.

Booked via last minute.com as last minute trip, access to spa, robes and slippers provided in room, great location, didn't have breakfast in here. Great room newly refurbished, great view. Comfy bed, great nights sleep.

Myself and my husband stayed here in the new year and we had a lovely stay. Our room was amazing with cathedral views and a lovely king size bed. The hotel itself was great, food really delicious although rather expensive!

Spa is really nice and clean, great pool although I could imagine it gets crowded at busier times of the year. Staff were on the whole quite friendly. If I had one complaint it would be the fact the lifts broke down several times over our two night stay and being on the sixth floor it wasn't fantastic claiming six flights of stairs after a relaxing swim and sauna !

Overall great hotel, fairly priced rooms, great location. Would definitely return although I wouldn't travel by car next time £80 to park for the two days !

Room Tip: Ask for cathedral facing room

The only thing good about the hotel is the hotel itself. Nice location, good rooms but the staff are incredibly incompetent.

Picking up packages from the concierge is one of the most idiotic processes I've seen. It's as if they receive a package, toss it in some random back room without any form of tracking EVEN if your name and room number is clearly marked on the parcel. Then they try to convince you that they have never received anything under your name or room number. Even if you show them signed proof that a hotel employee signed the docent upon receipt, they are still clueless and insist that they have nothing.

Front desk staff are just as bad. There is zero communication. Our trip was prepaid by our company and a credit card left on file for incidentals. They will still take your card and charge you £1000 as a hold despite the fact that it's already been done on the main card.

Then head on down for the breakfast that is included in your stay to be told you're not on the list. Another argument and finally they acknowledge they're wrong.

I wouldn't spend another cent at this chain. For a five star hotel, the service was incredibly bad almost to the point where you're constantly looking for hidden cameras trying to gauge your reaction for some reality tv show. Are they serious? Can someone really argue with your signed courier receipt showing an employee took a package?

The Grange can. Much better choices in London than this.

If you don't expect to be rudely awakened by a maid bursting into your room at 7.36am on a Saturday morning whilst the 'Do Not Disturb' sign is lit and without a warning knock either, then this hotel probably isn't for you. Yes the rooms are good value normally and the Hotel chain are seemingly good partners with LastMinute.com etc, but their service seems to leave a lot to be desired. I'm still waiting to hear from the Manager about my own experience as he was too busy dealing with other customer complaints at the time to speak with me. The Concierge asked me to write down the nature of my complaint along with all my own details, and yet after 5 days I've still heard nothing. It would appear that customer service is rather low on their list of priorities. It's unlikely that I or any of my colleagues will be returning any time soon.....
