“Nice hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2012

Nice hotel. Breakfast is fair. Location is OK if there is a convention near by, rooms are too dark. You cannot really open the curtains as there are offices right in your window.
Air conditioner is noisy.
Room is well equipped.
It's a 5 stars hotel, but nothing special there.
Internet is free but really really slow. No reception inside the hotel.

I don't often stay at 5 star hotels but we did get a very good rate for a three night weekend stay before Christmas and must say it was the most comfortable and all round best value I have had in a while. The rooms were huge and lacking absolutely nothing with a very modern bathroom and first rate linens. Yes, the breakfast was too costly but there are many other options within 5 minutes including a good cafe next door. The service was very good, which is to be expected from a hotel of this caliber. The spa area was a highlight; pool, sauna, turkish, etc. First rate. So close to the Tube makes this hotel an easy choice for getting around. Across the street is an Information Kiosk which is very helpful for first time visitors. The beautiful St Paul's Cathedral and Millennium Bridge to the South Bank are at your doorstep. You cannot go wrong with this hotel.

Perfectly decent hotel with no bad surprises. Great location, convenient to the tube, seconds from St Paul's and all that is around it. Check-in and check-out were quick, efficient and pleasant.

A real treat to have free wi-fi in the room, and it worked well. The wi-fi network was down one evening while I was there, but a quick trip to the concierge desk and I was given an ethernet cable to use, which worked fine. Comfortable for working at the desk, which had a convenient power outlet at desk level for laptops.

Room size was just fine -- a bit small by North American standards, but very decent compared to many London hotels, and certainly not cramped. Bath and a separate stall shower in the bathroom, which has modern fixtures and very good towels and extras.

Good in-room safe. Flat-screen TV on the wall was a bit small but not bad; not well positioned for watching from bed, and not able to be turned or tilted. Lights and other controls were fine, although the thermostat was a bit too cryptic.

The gripes above are very minor. All in all, a very clean, modern, dependable hotel for a business traveler.

We came for a friends 30th and stayed over. Whilst it's not an amazing location for certain things, the inside of the hotel is very modern, clean and the rooms felt fairly spacious.

We didn't get a chance to use the spa but our friends did and they enjoyed it.

Breakfast was fine if a little trivial when the Full English isn't included.

I would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms are very public looking into the central area (well the room we had was, the outer rooms m...

I have stayed here previously and had better experiences. The hotel is nice, but some things could be improved.

Good
- nice staff
- good bed

Needs to be improved
- internet connection was terrible, even when plugged into via ethernet. Wireless was not usable at all. I think it was free, but what is the point if it doesn't work?
- my room had absolutely no cell phone reception - terrible when you are there for business and trying to organise meetings etc
- the shower was in a narrow bath, with a huge shower head that you cannot adjust. no matter what you did water made a mess everywhere making the floors wet, cold & slippery
- iron was not functional
- laundry was not done by the times specified
- no room service menu in room
- terrible selection of in-room movies - the worst system I have ever seen
- tv in a strange position and unable to be adjusted at all, so it is difficult to watch from anywhere except a single uncomfortable chair
- other rooms look directly into your room across the atrium, you have to have the curtains continually closed making for a dank atmosphere.

I expected better from a 5-star hotel that charges 5 star prices.

Room Tip: Try to get one that has cell phone reception and has windows to the outside world for some natural l...

My husband and I stayed at the Grange for a quick pre-Christmas London trip. I emailed beforehand and requested a room with a view - and certainly got one. The room was large, the bed was extremely comfortable and the view - WOW: directly overlooking St Paul's Cathedral. The hotel is well located and within easy walking distance of many attractions, with both tube and bus connections close by. The front of house staff were very pleasant and helpful, although there were too few staff at breakfast. And talking of the breakfast, it was good value (we included it in our room price) and was extensive - although the toast was more like slightly warmed bread.

The most wonderful part of this hotel is the swimming pool and spa which is available to guests. To find these facilities (along with the large rooms) in such a central location was an unexpected bonus. We were able to start each day with a swim, a sauna, and a steam before tramping the streets of London. And free WiFi, which is sadly unusual in London hotels.

All-in-all a most pleasant stay - although I'm not sure I would have been as happy had we had a room which faced onto the atrium, with it's rather intrusive neon sign! And I would suggest avoiding the bar, which had little atmosphere - but with so many historic pub nearby why would you drink there?

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view, not overlooking the atrium.
