“Dreary and dismal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Arrived late...reception eventually found booking. Twin room, very disappointing. Badly in need of refurb. One centre light in ceiling. No others!

Bathroom stained and floor uneven. Shower sprays over curtain. No plug in sink. Bed very uneven due to broken supports. Carpet stained and dirty.

Price was cheap but you would have to be desperate to spend more than the minimal amount of time in the rooms, with the busy railway just yards behind.

We arrived at 16.00 our room wasn't ready yet. We have been asked to wait for 15 min,no apologies whatsoever! Not friendly staff at all! and the worst is- the room was cold and dirty-only good thing-bed linen was clean. I foot even want to describe the bathroom. The breakfast was at the filthy table,food-two toasts, processed sausage, least or juice from concentrate and we ordered a fried eggs Joe had scrambled. In few words- filthy hotel with unfriendly staff! Never again! Nearly the same if to sleep on a street!

When we first arrived at the place we thought it would be ok as the reception area looking reasonable and the other guests looked like respectful nice older couples. To be honest we think that right then they had decided me and my friend were young students that they could take advantage of. We were led to the house next door and to a filthy basement room with a shared bathroom that was also uncleared. The door had a very flimsy lock and gaps in the door frame. The view out of our window was an upturned disposed sofa on the garden. We were genuinely scared as we thought we'd been taken to a completely separate place. We do feel that we were taken advantage of because we look young and probably looked like we wouldn't mind, and really we don't mind a bit of a low key guest house but this was horrifying it was the worst place I've stayed at. It's cheap for a good reason, I did not feel safe at all.

My partner & I stayed here in April 2012. Although its certainly not the best hotel in London its okay if you just want somewhere to crash on a city break. The worst thing we found was the noise on the saturday night from the church next door. Not good for a couple of athiests like us. Otherwise the location was great, within a few steps from Bethnel Green tube station. Also theres a great cafe just round the corner that does a really nice breakfast for a reasonable price.

Room was filthy. Dust everywhere! Bedding seemed clean but was stained! Every time a train passed by the room would rattle. There was a small step into the bathroom that wasn't safe as both me and my friend tripped up several times. Bugs were all over the bathroom towels and sink. Shower would either be too cold or too hot. There was a fridge but it was broken. A kettle but no cups and no where to put it. both bedside cabinets were broken. I had booked a twin room and was told on arrival that they only had a double - the man didn't even seem like he cared! They ended up just giving us a mattress on the floor for the '2nd bed'. Dirty cups and tissue were left in room. Just outside the room the hallway window was broken/falling off. Dirty cups everywhere in hallway... I can't even be bothered to list anything else. It was just terrible. My advise, do not stay here.

This place is mis-represented as a two-star hotel - and overpriced for the one-star it actually is.

It's the first time I've paid £60 for an en suite room and had to furnish my own shampoo. There was at least a kettle in the room, betraying the possibility of making your own tea/coffee, but no cups/coffee/tea to be found. When requested, polystyrene cups were provided with some milk in the bottom - so the basics available on that count, at least, but you shouldn't have to ask. I could carry on, but the above is indicative.

Staff are polite and helpful, and the free wifi is good, but this place really has to get the basics sorted out and stop taking the infuriatingly lazy option of relying on its superbly convenient location as a means of staying in business despite the shoddy, sub-standard provision for its customers.

I won't be staying here again ... and I wish I'd checked the place on Trip Advisor first. The majority verdict is on the money.

Room Tip: Rooms in other hotels are much better value!
