“A nice atmosphere and good value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Martel's Guest House is a wonderful place to stay in London if you do not need to be in the centre of London. Golders Green Tube Station is only five minutes from it and it will take 25 minutes to go to Leicester Square. The rooms are clean, calm and the breakfast is prepared on the spot by Mr Martel who is very helpful person. Bathrooms are tiny but clean and well organised.

Room Tip: Room 8, double room, was spacious enough with a large window over the garden.

Background.

After much research for our holiday to London, we chose to stay at the Martel Guest House. This was based on other reviews of the guest house, our ability to drive there and have off road parking, and being close to the Underground so that we could get around easily.

The Martel Guest House

We were greeted by Nellie who made us very welcome with a cup of tea and cakes, she then helped carry our luggage in from the car.

We were in room 6 at the front of the house, the room was large had a good sized en suite, was well furnished, even including a fridge, and was spotlessly clean. Even though we were at the front of the house we heard no noise whatsoever. Throughout our stay the room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels and our bed made.

Breakfast was cooked fresh for you as you went into the dining room and was ready by the time you had eaten your cereals, and there was plenty to eat.

The area of Golders Green was vibrant, we enjoyed going along the main street seeing all the different shops and restaurants, in fact we ate there 3 evenings. The best place to eat is the Turkish Restaurant Likya, it's brilliant.

Overall how would we rate The Martel Guest House, very high.

When ever we go back to London this will be our first place of call for accommodation, its everything you could want in that it's, value for money, spotlessly clean, friendly and close to the underground. What more could anyone want.

Would we recommend it YES

Very good BnB, comfortable rooms, clean, the welcome is great and a very good traditional English breakfast. The landlord, Phil is a nice man, always ready to give you a good piece of advice, the house is close to metro station Golders Green and a lot of stops buses. Also plenty of good and not expansive restos. So pleased to be able to know this place. A french couple from Lyon.

Sure a very nice place : clean rooms, excellent british breakfast, not so far from london center ( bus or tube) , shops very closed, and a quiet area.

Mr Martel has given to us when we are arrived all informations regarding shops, restaurants, tube, bus,...

Room Tip: Very clean ( rooms are cleaned every day ) , very quiet.

As many people wrote here before, indeed the location is great and the rooms are clean and warm and the proprietor was very friendly and helpful. As I was travelling from abroad, I really liked the fact that in the room there were electric sockets adaptors we could use.
I will definitely come back again.

I've stayed here before and reviewed it before and it's a great place.

:: Located in the heart of Jewish London it is literally five minutes walk from Golders Green Road. It's all of seven minutes walk from Golders Green tube station on the Northern Line that will get you into central London quickly.
:: The building is a converted pair of private houses knocked together and has lots of character, but this means that the rooms are of variable sizes. Although the variable prices mean that you will always get good value for money, make sure you know what you are getting in advance.
:: The most significant part of the property is Phil Martel and his assistant who are ubiquitous. Like a GOOD Fawlty Towers, their presence is stamped on your stay with a commitment to being friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: There are a limited number of rooms. If you have a special request (e.g. ground floor) ask them in p...

This is a good place to stay. The room is cleaned every day, and the breakfast is various and good. Great B&B on a quiet road, about 5 minutes walk from buses, tube and shops. Mr Martel was very kind and patient as we arrived earlier than we must on first day.
