“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

We spent a couple of nights here while in London. Location is excellent, very central and situated in a tranquil, and pretty area. Our room was incredibly large with a flat screen tv and lots of channels, and tea and coffee facilities which were all well received. But the furnishings are basic, and the bathroom, while clean, was very basic. There was no shower curtain in the bath, so it made for a wet floor when showering. Breakfast is in a separate building, in the actual college, which is novel, and added to the uniqueness of this place. Excellent selection for breakfast. Good value overall, especially given the location, but it’s not 4 star.

In the centre of London and has good service at the reception. However 4 stories and lacks a lift (No 23 as all of it in a row of houses). The rooms were nice but the toilets were small with poor flushing.

However front desk was very helpful.

If you want an efficient hotel with all modern services, this is not it. However a relaxed stay and some old world charm - this is it.

Room Tip: If you can take a room in the ground floor - climbing 4 stairs at 11.30 om - ugh!

I booked two single rooms at the Goodenough Club, having arranged a weekend trip with a friend. The young man on the reception desk could not have been more helpful. He arranged for us to have two rooms facing the garden square. Both rooms were immaculate - very comfortable beds and very well appointed. There were no baths in the single rooms, but the showers were very good. Breakfast the next morning was across the square, in the London House. Again, very pleasant staff, and an excellent selection of the usual fruits, cereals etc., and a well cooked full English. I will definitely be back, and have already recommended it to other friends. Mecklenburgh Square is very quiet, and is approximately a ten minute walk from Russell Square underground.

Having read another recent review, stating that the breakfast was terrible, I disagree completely. The food was hot, and even the scrambled eggs were freshly cooked, I have stayed in several hotels over the years in London, I would say that the Goodenough Club is excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the square.

I stayed at the Goodenough Club during the Para Olympics.Few of my colleagues also stayed at different houses of the Club.My room in the ground floor was very spacious but had a closet of a bathroom. All four star comforts were available in the room .We had our breakfast in the Goodenough college Great Hall than the small common room area close to the reception.
The reception staff were welcoming but had no facilities or porters to carry my friends baggage to the third floor room.(he left the Club the next day)
The location is great for Bloomsbury and Russel square area activities or for a London Base. Remember the hotels in Russels square will be cheaper.(smaller rooms)Area is full of good restaurants Local attractions.
The breakfast at the goodenough college is like the university student breakfast. If not for the price i will certainly stay next year at the Goodenough club too during our annual conference.

Room Tip: ground floor delux

Excellent location 10 minute walk from Kings Cross Station, booked a double room but the bathroom was only big enough for two Hobbitts, the room was nice but bed and pillow rock hard, also very hot at night, no air conditioning or any fans. Breakfast terrible, its taken across the road, very poor selection, breakfast is served from 8 to 12 on Sunday but at 9 we were informed by the unhelpfull waitress that there were no more eggs avaliable of any description, wouldn't stay again.

We stayed here for 5 nights in July and thought it was wonderful. We are a family of 4 and even though the room was quite small compared to other places we have stayed at, it was super clean and functional. The breakfasts were ample with much to choose from and our children (aged 12 and 14 ) were happy and comfortable with our stay here.

Make no mistake about it as the location is a huge plus! So close to the British Museum it is an Historian's dream come true! Bloomsbury is very green and pretty as was the walk to the Russell Square tube and to Russell Square gardens. We even came across a gorgeous Italian restaurant in Lamb Conduits St Bloomsbury called "Ciao Bella" which had fabulous food and a great atmosphere!

There is so much to see and do in London and Goodenough Club was the perfect spot to base ourselves in. It was so central to everything and so easy to come and go from. We would certainly return on the strength of this stay and use Goodenough Club as another excuse to take a stroll to the amazing British Museum yet again!

I've stayed at the Goodenough Club for about 30 nights, in different trips over around 6 years. It's my favourite place to stay in London. The location is superb: walking distance to the British Library, British Museum, King's Cross, St Pancras and Euston stations, lots of restaurants, a Waitrose, and a cinema a short walk away. The staff are friendly and helpful. I love going over to the College to have breakfast: it's in a very big wood-panelled dining hall, and there's always a huge choice of cooked, baked, and 'continental' breakfast items. There are newspapers lying around for you to read over breakfast. Two little issues: a) it's not cheap, even for that part of London, though the rooms are usually much more spacious than you'd get in a typical hotel; and b) once or twice when I've stayed in a room in one of the main houses, the sound of the person in the room above me walking about has kept me awake. But the Goodenough is definitely my first choice for a London hotel. It's usually a real pleasure to stay there.
