Had been to a number of very poor bars during the evening.............Covent Garden Cocktail Bar and GEM but this place was on another level!
Polite door staff, very nice room and décor, seemed clean and bar staff that actually realise that they are paid to serve drinks and not chat to one another or mates on the other side of the bar!
Considering where this bar is on Piccadilly we expected it to be full of tourists but no....a nice clientele many of whom were well dressed.....almost a revelation compared to our earlier experiences! Drinks were good and considering in the centre of London almost reasonable!
We went off to China town to have a meal and returned a couple of hours later, the door staff recognised us and we were straight back in.....good on them as we then spent a small fortune!
As the evening went on the back room filled up with a young crowd but the main front bar was comfortable and one could still just about hold a conversation over the music!
On leaving the door staff were "trying" to get a queue going, roping off people to one side to give the "appearance" that this was a happening, important venue you needed to be in........ (we all remember the old days of The Atlantic Bar in Glasshouse Street not 100 meters from here and their notorious door policy)....why? It was half empty? and don't say it was for fire regs as it had been much busier earlier on that evening! We watched as they made people queue up and had a chuckle when a couple of guys were told it could be a 15-20 minute wait...don't you want them in your establishment buying drinks?
Our only complaint like earlier in the evening is when people controlling these establishments allow dealers in.......we were approached on three separate occasions by three separate people (one a girl). It is clear they know who they are (your staff talk to them like they are regulars) but seem to turn a blind eye to it? Maybe it is these dealers who you should be putting in the imaginary queue then your clients would spend more of their hard earned money on your cocktails?..............................just a thought?
