“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2013

I enjoyed my stay here as the staff was very helpful and friendly. The kitchen staff especially. Breakfast was good.
However, I hope the reception staff gets more updated about things around their area. We were misdirected a couple of times by one of the staff. He was most likely new and he was the sweetest though, so we didn't really mind.
The rooms were clean. No safe though, which was a bummer.
The location is awesome, it is right next to Southwark station and trains are very regular.
They even organise the private taxis for you. Get them as the normal London taxis are much more expensive.
Wifi was good.
However, when I had to extend my trip for 3 days, I found that I paid more for the 3 days than for the 5 or 6 I had already booked.

Room Tip: Choose one away from the main rood. Ours was away from the main road so we got good sleep.

This new Ibis is very much like any other - the identikit rooms are bland and not particularly welcoming, but that's to be expected.

However, this Ibis has two design flaws which really let it down
- no sound insulation around the soil pipes, so when someone in a room above flushes their loo, it sounds like there's a torrent of sewerage flowing into your own shower 'cabin'
- no carpets on the bedroom floors mean that the footfalls of your neighbours are amplified, as I discovered in the early hours when a neighbour decided to trot back and forth around their room in their shoes (could've been forgiven for thinking they were wearing clogs!).

When I mentioned these concerns to the receptionist, my complaint was met with a very bland an unapologetic 'there's nothing we can do about it'.

And so I checked out of the Ibis feeling tired and irritable, and not the least bit like a valued customer.

Given the choice, I won't be staying with Ibis again.

Room Tip: Book into the Novotel next door!

Dear Ursula, please allow me to present you my deepest apologies. I can certainly understand your frustration, especially if you have been disturbed in the early hours of the day. I am as well sincerely sorry to read that you had felt that, at some point, the reaction of our team was not appropriate. Thank you very much for your feedback, I truly believe that this can help us improve our guest experience.

Very good experience overall. Check in was flawless. Room was nice. Location is superb. Contemporary design of the property is excellent. Breakfast was superb. What to improve: bath towels are too small. More alternatives on TV including sports and international channels.

Looks modest, but it is clean here, a newly furnished room with comfortable bed, friendly service staff, good breakfast, daily newspapers available all the time and good location produce positive impression. Thank you!

We stayed for one night in this new purpose built Ibis. It is a 'sleep-pod' - nothing more and nothing less.

It is within easy walking distance from the South Bank, the nearest tube is Southwark and lots of buses stop on Blackfriars Road just outside the hotel. It's very clean and quiet, the beds have a super luxury mattress topper on and was the best hotel bed I've ever slept on. The only downside was that our view was onto the wall of another building about 2 meters away, but it was not too claustrophobic. The whole feel of the building and our room was light and airy, with good signage and everywhere very clean. Friendly staff. Efficient check in and out.

Room Tip: If you want a view ask for a room that does not look onto the wall of the building next door.

PLUS: Location was great. Near Southwark tube station and within walking distance to London Eye and Parliament's House.

Hotel room was good and clean. We booked the bigger Standard Room with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, which came with the same price as the smaller one.

Breakfast was OK with hot meals and continental choices. Service was average, nothing special.

MINUS: The bathroom and shower design were a bit weird and disappointing. Shower quality was also bad with the water inconsistently turning hot and cold. No bathroom amenities provided, but only all purpose hand, shower and shampoo gel.
