“Excellent Steak-house at Westfield Shopping Centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We have been here several times for lunches and have always had an excellent experience.

The Meat and Wine Company makes a welcome change from the fast food outlets within the Westfield Shopping Centre and the mixture of chain restaurants outside.

The spacious restaurant is on the first floor and is stylishly decorated with an open kitchen. As the name implies they specialize in meat dishes, especially steaks. They use select quality cuts of beef, aged carefully over many days and grilled to perfection.

To start, we chose Peri Peri Prawns £10.25 to share. As main courses we chose Rib Meat burger £19.00 (not minced beef but steaks of rib beef in a bun) with chilli sauce £2 and a US 120 days aged 200g Fillet Beef steak £42.00 with asparagus £4.25. Both dishes were served with handcut fries and were excellent and perfectly cooked.

They have a superb and extensive wine list - we chose Exmoor Cabernet £28.50. Service charge was 12.5%.

Service was very professional and informative.

The restaurant is somewhat pricey - but the quality of the meat and service make it worthwhilet.

The best steak in Westfield! I have been here a few times with work mates and friends for business lunches and nights out. Lovely desserts too.

“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

Food was good and should be for the price. I was made to wait for seats despite having a reservation and there being seats empty. The waiter was agitated and unfriendly. I refused to pay the service charge as the portions were small and because of the service, the waiter was not subtle in showing his annoyance by discussing this matter with another member of staff. I will not be going back and have advised others to spend their hard earned money elsewhere.

“Nice restaurant nice ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

Visited this place with a friend last year. We had not made a prior reservation and therefore had to sit for about ten minutes in the lobby until the table became available. Once it had, we were seated. I chose a classic burger and chips and it cost around fifteen pounds. It tasted really nice and I didn't mind the expense for that reason. I also chose a chocolate fondant. It took fifteen minutes due to the fact the first fondant broke but that did not matter. It was delicious. I would go again. Be warned though on busy nights if you do not have a reservation you will wait for a long period to get seated. 30min+. The night we visited it was quiet. Overall very good and for the standard of food the price was reasonable.
