“Gorgeous hotel....and those blackout blinds!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

We stayed one night in South Place Hotel and it was hands down the nicest hotel experience we have had in London. The design is fresh and hip, without making us "middle-aged" travelers feel out of place. The room was spotlessly clean and well-appointed. When we asked for an iron it was delivered in under two minutes. The bed was heavenly...the most comfortable hotel bed I can recall. The breakfast downstairs was fresh and delicious and priced as one would expect for a nice hotel. When we were getting ready to make our journey to Heathrow, we were offered a car service which was £65. We jumped on it, since there were two of us with large cases and that was quite a bit less than a cab. Now a word about the blackout blinds...first of all, everything is controlled with very modern flat panels with touch-screen buttons. Very high-tech and intuitive. When retiring for the night, at a somewhat late (early morning) hour, I noticed the button on the bedside panel that looked like a window. Pushing it caused a blind to close behind the semi-sheer curtains. This thing was AMAZING! Not a sliver of light crept into that room to disturb our sleep. It was an incredibly sunny (very late) morning when we felt up to greeting the day. Until we pressed that button to lift the blind, it could have been midnight for all we knew. Highly recommended! We will be back.

Dear NJmurph,

Our sincerest thanks for taking the time to leave your comments. We were so happy to hear that you enjoyed South Place. The beds are indeed extremely comfortable, and together with the blinds, are perfect for a lazy morning lie in. We hope that we get to welcome you back on your next visit to London.

Best regards,

Bruce

Stayed for 4 days in June 2013. The hotel is quite new and is very well located. 5 mins walking distance from Liverpool Street station. The concerige staff is extremely courteous and very knowledgable. Since it is a boutique hotel, the rooms have a neo-modern and edgy decor albeit, very tastfully done. The seafood restaurant on the rooftop is well known for fine-dining. The cafe on the ground level serves excellent breakfast at very reasonable price. I was surprised when my table attendant on Day 2 remebered my favorite coffee. These little things make a huge difference, especially when you are staying 4-5 days at a strech. New rooms, good decor and excellent service.

The staff were outstanding at the South Place Hotel. The room was a nice size for London and so was the bathroom. Spotlessly clean. The bar downstairs is AMAZING (but very pricey!). A sambuca shot was £10. However, I cannot speak highly enough of the staff. Friendly, helpful and just FANTASTIC! One 'small' negative for me was the location. Having lived in London for 3 years, Marylebone is my local hangout. I didn't quite like the area. It's the financial district so very quiet at night. Having said that, it's on the central line so it's nice and easy to get into Regent/Oxford Streets. Even though the location was not to my liking, I would definitely stay there again if the price is right. THANKS SOUTH PLACE for an enjoyable stay at your hotel!

Dear m_murphy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I am thrilled that you enjoyed your stay here so much, and our staff really appreciate your kind comments. Although the immediate area next to the hotel can be a little quiet at times, we are very close to really lively areas such as Shoreditch and Spitalfields. Since your stay we have created a local area guide to help our guests explore the local neighbourhoods. I hope that we see you at the hotel again soon and you can take advantage of the guide.

Best regards,
Bruce

We've stayed in lots of places over the years but this is now one of my worldwide favourites. From the start the staff are wonderful. The rooms are good sized and fun with lots of technology. There are plenty of super fluffy towels. The rooftop bar is great on a summer evening with a wide range of top shelf drinks. Angler restaurant provides top notch food, focussing on seafood, at not unreasonable prices.

My only criticism is that the pillows are a bit flat and no other option was available. Also no top sheet is provided (a common criticism of mine these days) but will be on request.

Also if you need to get to sleep early don't get a courtyard room. They face onto the courtyard bar which does not close down until 10.15pm. Being a courtyard it gets REALLY noisy. Think trying to sleep in a bar on a busy Friday night. However, they do reassure you on check in that it will close around 10.00pm and they were true to their word on both nights that we were there.

Room Tip: Need to get to sleep early- don't let them give you a courtyard room.

We booked South Place in preparation for a surprise birthday dinner for my father. From the moment I booked with the hotel until our departure, staff were incredibly attentive and really went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience.

The hotel itself is beautiful. It has a wonderful modern feel alongside a quirky personality gained through some fantastic touches, décor and luxury goods which give it the wow factor. The room and bathroom were spacious, and the layout seemed to have been very well thought out all round,

Room service ordered was good - my only complaint would be the poached eggs were a little underdone but that is being incredibly harsh.

I have a new favourite hotel in London and I'm looking forward to returning in the near future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to get a good view of the city.

We have just arrived home after spending the night at south place hotel. I cannot stress enough how fantastic our experience was. On arrival we were advised that we had the best room in the hotel- we most certainly did!- the bath was unbelievable!........ I have never stayed in a more amazing room. Beds were so comfy, service second to none and food lovely. We had a few drinks in the bar late last night, it was a real chilled laidback environment.... Perfect! Thank you to all the staff at south place! We hope to see you again soon x

We stayed at this hotel for one night after a company function! WOW it was just great. From the moment we checked in, only had 5 star treatment. We loved the large rooms with so many modern quirky bits, remote controlled blinds, fun lighting options, huge Flat screen TV. The bathroom is also very large, the bath was HUGE and the soaps and bath goodies were so nice, good quality and smelt FAB. The roof top bar and down stairs bar's are both open late and offer nice variety of drinks! Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast the next morning and the best part was that check out was only at 12:00 so no rushing! Would highly recommend a stay at this hotel, a real treat, in a great location! The service and people working at this hotel were so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and happy! Oooh could keep writing about this place, the Bed was amazing, we slept so so well!
