“A real treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Hidden away amongst the mainly Asian restaurants and take outs it's a real pleasure to find somewhere the food takes centre stage. Quaint little restaurant with lots of quirks like the birds in cages and the mismatched crockery. You are immediately made to feel welcome by the delightful waitresses.

The menu is short but offers a choice that should suit most people. The wine list is similarly concise but offers good value.

We started with the planche which had some excellent duck and some very nice cold meats and pickes served with toast. The tartare which my wife had was as good as any we have had in France. My moules were OK. Bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and the 12.5% service charge and the bill came to £70 which is not bad for the area.

The bill comes accompanied by a jar of soft sweets - I could have eaten them all but wasn't allowed to!

We will definitely be returning.

“A little gem in the middle of Brick Lane”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

If you are looking for tasty, fresh French food in a lovely, cosy and friendly atmosphere « Chez Elles » is the place to go. The food is exquisite while being affordable. The service is warm and professional. The 2 lovely young owners have created a little gem in the middle of Brick Lane.

“What a Gem !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013

This is my first ever Tripadvisor review, but this restaurant was so impressive I felt the need to share our excellent experience with others. I took my family here for dinner and was greatly surprised by the lovely décor as we entered. the staff are friendly and accomadating and add greatly to the atmosphere.

The food is excellent, genuninely French country cusine. The planche starter is excellent and the selection of sausages is a delight. The mains are beautifully presented and full of flavour, the fish in particular was cooked to perfection.

While the restaurant is located on Brick Lane, it is a shin

“It's hard to do the simple things well, but they do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Long time since I have chosen to go for a French meal in London - it's a bit passé, isn't it, why would you bother in 2013? But glad we followed strong recommendations, as it was more than worthwhile. Slightly incongruous to find such an authentic bistro in the heart of subcontinent-orientated Brick Lane - a truly individual venue, lovingly designed and tended by the eponymous Elle's. Everything we had from the classic menu was flawless - flavoursome, perfectly executed and ample. Salmon tartare fresh and silky; steak tartare chock full of top quality meat; bavette steak charred outside but rosy pink inside as ordered. A surprisingly delightful interlude.

“Leave the tourist 'curry houses' alone and try this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Brick lane is not exactly famous for French Bistro's (or good indian food these days ....) - so I arrived sceptical, but left; drunk, well fed, not too poor, happy and genuinely pleased that my now 24-year-old-school-boy-French (read that again.... it makes sense) had held up and I hadn't accidently ended up with a horse appendage for dinner.

The staff are great and really encourage you to try and dredge up your old French, and unlike when you try this in Paris, it is met with kind appreciation - this simply adds to the fun (for those of you that aren't French or speak good French) and enjoy trying ....

Food and service is superb, the wine was great and really affordable for decent stuff; something for everyone here (even vegetarians!) and the old time french classics - I had snails and simply didn't care.

So go on; leave 'Bonnet de douche' and saying 'Rodney' after every French sentence behind and enjoy a real pleasure here. Will be back and I'm practicing my French in the meantime .......
