I have always been a huge fan of the Marbella restaurant. It has always been first class but somewhat lacking in customers (on the nights we went). Given the London restaurant is so new, I was expecting a similar experience and that is exactly what we found.
The service in this restaurant is the best you will get. The waiters were very knowledgeable of the large menu and they were also personable and attentive. Given how quiet the restaurant was, we were probably afforded more attention than usual but that cannot be faulted. we were introduced to the Head Chef and the owner who personally waited on out table and who had very high attention to detail. I'd hate to have to work for him!
The food was exquisite and its presentation immaculate. It is a daunting menu however, unless you are very familiar with Japanese food and you know what you want. The price is also a daunting experience. You will not leave this restaurant without feeling like you paid for all the above niceties.
Atmosphere: I really do hope this restaurant gets busy. It deserves to. I went on a Tuesday night, in early January. It was not full, yet the decor and ambience is very inviting and unique.
The location, right in the middle of South Ken, will guarantee a catchment area of people with high disposable income and financial resilience, so Sushi Des Artistes will be here to stay. I do hope though, that it brings more numbers during the weekdays.
If you like Japanese food and you are willing to pay for a more creative and detailed dining experience, then I would recommend Sushi des Artistes on Sloane Avenue. You will not be disappointed as long as you realise it is expensive and it is only starting out, so Mondays and Tuesdays can be quiet. You would be hard pressed to find better Jpanese food in London.
