“Silver service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

As fairly frequent travellers to London from Australia , my husband and I were looking for somewhere to stay for a change apart from the usual clubs on St James' Square . After much searching on the internet , I chanced upon The Main House. It seemed to have everything we were looking for- a charming location, walking distance to the tube and restaurants and spacious and stylish accommodation. We stayed for 5 nights and whilst the internet proved correct about all of the above, we also found by staying there how lovely and helpful the owner, Caroline , and her assistant, Chiara, were. They offered advice if sought about places to visit and were able to recommend restaurants from the many nearby. It was always a pleasure to come back each evening to a lovely clean and freshly made up room. After returning home , it took me a while to realise that the beautiful silver tray and teapot would not be appearing magically at my door each morning as they had done at The Main House ! We are looking forward to returning to London and The Main House .

Lovely location set in a street in the heart of Notting Hill, just a block from Portobello Road and close to many nice spots present in the area and often far from the highlights (and the crowd!).
You have the tube just so close - 10 minutes walking - but forget it, take instead when you can the double-decker buses that you find just around the corner from the Main House, yes they are slower but allow you to see London streaming in front of your eyes (a seat in the upper deck mandatory!).
As for the hotel I can confirm what already said in the previous reports, nice and stylish rooms, everything you need, very helpful cab service from/to Heathrow airport, etc.
The added value are the great hosts, Caroline (yes you're Italiano is okay ti abbiamo capito!) and Chiara, really kind and helpful, they like to chat and give an advice on everything, but always in a kind and interesting way, nothing you find on the official guides.
Last suggestion: try to wake up early in the morning for a quiet and fulfilling walk in the neighbourhood - it's not to be missed ! - I did it myself five days on a seven day stay (leaving my wife and son sleeping for a couple of hours).
Oh London, I miss you.....

Luca from Roma.

Room Tip: We stayed in the top rooms - the French suite - and everything was okay.

While the location is one of the most charming and convenient in the entire city of London,
our first impression was a classy shabby sheik, but after staying a few weeks it became apparent that it is more shabby than sheik. We shared our spacious suite withone or more little 4 legged unpaying guests, and cleanliness was not an inhouse priority. Breakfast was an option on a single cup of coffee if you had remembered to have booked the previous evening.
ALERT ! Be very cautious about your advance payments if there is the slightest possibility that you may need to cancel or change the booking.!!!!

Room Tip: The two larger suites on the first and second floor

As Londoners who have since moved away, a central base is extremely important for any return trip. The Main House, Caroline and Chiara, met our every need. Comforting and stylish, more than "home from home". Our experience during our week stay has convinced us that this is a perfect place to continue to stay on our trips home.

Room Tip: All rooms are amazing.

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights. We felt immediately at home after being greeted at the door by Caroline. Our room was large with a lovely sized bathroom - furnished in a colonial style. We were so well placed for our activities, being so close to Kensington Gardens, Palace and a quick walk through Kensington Park to Hyde Park or straight down to Kensington - it was a pleasure. Plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby for breakfast and dinner. We would both recommend the venue.

My husband and I stayed at the Main House for several days as the last leg of our Europe trip. We were greeted with the warmth of a family member by Caroline who carefully checked in with us each morning, after our initial warm greeting, to make sure we had a good plan for tour for the day. The room is in a beautiful neighborhood with outstanding spots for breakfast and dinner within a block or two. The tube was about six blocks. The room was large and airy, the bed very comfortable, and we loved the authenticity of living in our own flat in a London neighborhood. We highly recommend you consider staying at this great location.

Room Tip: Top floor of course!

My husband and I and our 12 year old son just spent a week at The Main House, and it was a great place for the three of us. We had a suite, with a bedroom for us, and a room for our son. The rooms were quiet and clean, and Caroline and Chiara made us feel welcome and always had helpful tips and suggestions. The neighborhood was a perfect mix of urban chic and colorful street life, and the tube station is an easy walk, which makes all of London accessible. There are lots of cafes and stores within a block or two, so it's easy to eat (and feed a growing 12 year old boy) without much hassle or expense.
