Near train station Just a nice train trip into London. We did that everyday and enjoyed it so much.. Location great. The staff where very helpful, and checking was quick. We really loved our stay in lovely hotel. The room was clean and the bathroom lovely. The shower is a treat. We
would like to return to this hotel in the future.

Working around the East End of London last week I decided to try overnighting in Docklands - not exactly next door but nearer than home. The staff were professional and helpful in a polite but functional sort of way. My room overlooked distant factories and chimneys rather than the water though I was on business not holiday so a clean and comfortable bed with good pillows was more important than the view - and they were all of those things. The bathroom was small and just adequate, no shelf space for toiletries which was rather annoying, yet there was plenty of cupboard and hanging space. I did not like the pokey, separate loo, though for people sharing [the room] it was probably a better idea. Though I could not stay for breakfast so cannot comment on its quality or size, I thought £15.95 was expensive and think a Continental option should also be offered for those who don't want or have time for the 'full Monty'. Parking overnight was £15 and I think that should be pointed out to guests rather than, as I did, assume it is part of the hotel's service and free to guests, [it's £30 to non-guests]. Clearly the reception chap thought I was barking mad when I suggested this, reminding me of where we were, were according to him, parking spaces were rarer than hens' teeth.
I have no regrets about staying there because at last I got to visit this part of Docklands, which was fascinating. Rather like a film set for 'The Prisoner'!
Would I go again? Probably not but I can see it would be fun for a weekend visit - with a partner!

Room Tip: Don't assume parking is free. Try to book a room overlooking the water - better view and no twe...

Stayed here last week with my teenage son, we found the hotel to be in a great location just a trip on the DLR gets you into central London, or a short walk to the cable cars over to the O2,
The hotel is very plesant and the staff very helpful, giving you details on places to visit both in london and the local area
rooms are very clean with mini safe mini bar, tea/coffee and free wifi which is a plus with teenagers. in the bathroom a bath and seperate shower free toileties as well was a plus. We didn't have food at the hotel so cannot comment on this all I can say you are staying in a four star hotel in london and the prices do reflex that, this is not a bad point just something you should consider when budget your stay, all in all a very clean hotel with friendly staff on hand 24/7

We stayed here twice booking a good deal with lastminute.com with included breakfast. These were really nice stays. Check-in was quick and effortless, and the room is nice and relaxing. The shower in the room on both occasions was awesome. There are 2 handy computers available free to use in the foyer, and a games console. The breakfast was really nice too, good range of hot food, fruit and breads and cheeses, yoghurts and cereals all in a buffet.

Room Tip: Ask for a waterside-view room

The first impression we got was of a jet coming in to land at the nearby City Airport. This kind of set the tone.
As has been mentioned, the entrance, the lifts and the basic layout were not really the best.
The staff, part from on reception were great, the chap on reception was quite surly, and in my opinion not best suited to this role. However, this was only for a few moments and did not detract from the overall quality and experience of using this hotel.
This is a comfortable hotel to stay in, it is very clean and quite spacious. But do not expect an early night, or a lie in due to the nearby airport, out cerosine fuelled alarm clock landed at 6am on the Sunday. This cannot be avoided by the hotel, but should be considered when booking.
In the school holidays we had quite a late night, but the staff were exemplary, polite, helpful and patient. We got food after 11pm served by impeccable staff who kept checking everything was ok.
In spite of the wide winged alarm, I would happly visit again, this is a great out of town base to visit LOndon from.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at the Novotel London ExCeL here online.

I was surprised to read your comment in regards to our reception staff as we always aim for our guests to feel welcome as soon as they enter our hotel. I can assure you that the situation you experienced upon arrival is not up to the standard of service we pride ourselves on delivering. Nonetheless, I was thrilled to hear that you found the rest of the staff to be great and that your experience at check-in did not detract from the overall good quality of our hotel.

We can only apologise for the fact that the planes from London City Airport were a disturbance during your stay. Nevertheless, I was happy to read that it did not alter your trust in our services as you would happily come back to our property.

We look forward to welcoming you back in a near future.

Kind regards,

Daniel Batista

I stayed at this hotel for one night (room 647). I found it strange that the main entrance to the hotel looks like a back entrance. You get in through the front doors and are faced with lifts (no personnel); you have to enter the lift to the first floor where the reception sits. The receptionists were professional, and obliged in changing my room when I didn't like the view from the window of the first room to which I was shown. The hotel is somewhat far from central London, which is a drawback, but it is good value for money. I like Novotel hotels because the rooms are consistent so I have come to know what to expect. This was no exception, I liked the room.

Booked a 5 night mystery hotel through Expedia and it was Novotel London excel. Great location, only 30mins to city centre and not far from London city airport. During day there are flights landing very close by, but if you're out and about sightseeing it won't bother you. Spectacular views of canary wharf, the O2 and the emirates air line. Room clean and sufficient size for the 2 of us, comfortable bed. Bar and bar meal good value. Ideal base to explore London from, whilst being out of the hustle and bustle of the city
