“Good location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2014

Good location. Comfortable.
The hotel need to be redecoraited. Bathrooms in the room very small. Breakfast alright but not good. I would not stay there again. But would maybe look at it if they redecoraited it.

This hotel's ratings didn't look too bad and it was less expensive than many places in London. It was a thoroughly miserable experience. The first room was in the dank basement that smelled, was claustrophobic and below street level so you couldn't even safely open the window. I asked for another room and got one the next day. It was up many flights of stairs and it entire bathroom rivaled an airplane toilet for size, including the space for the shower. One of the desk staff was helpful but there was generally benign neglect. The place was not very clean - vents were caked with dust and you wouldn't walk barefoot on the floors and carpet. The one good point was that there were no apparent bed bugs. The so-called continental breakfast was miserable and beyond cheap in terms of the offerings.

Room Tip: Don't stay there until they clean up their act.

Hotel was in the right location for us and it is easy to travel about from here using the buses/tube.
The hotel is like a hostel- walk in and the carpet is threadbare- there is a lounge area that looks like it belongs in a student hall of residence- the reception is a little room stuck at the back- didn't try breakfast so can't comment. Our room was ok- but the bathroom was ridiculous- it was like a shower cubicle on a ferry- but smaller and stuck in the corner of the room- the taps were rusty and old and it was either hot or cold!! Bed sheets were clean but beds were lumpy- AND NO MATTRESS COVER!!!! once again it had a shabby feel to it- like student accomodation- this is ok for 2 nights but not a nice place to spend your time- if you are out and about like we were then its sufferable. Cost £100 PER NIGHT!

The staff was willing to help with my requests and the breakfast was good. Rooms are small, and bathrooms look like one of those boat cabins (no tiles, just plastic covering), however bathroom was clean. For location you get, the place is decent.

Really? Where are the positive reviews are coming from? I understand that not all rooms might be the same, but the bugs in the breakfast room where plain to see for every guest!

The room I got wasnt clean and neither was the shared bathroom. Yuk!

I only stayed for one night, because after that one night I found some suspicious bites on my body.. Fleas?

The staff wasn't helpful or friendly.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location, but really, that doesn't make up for the horrible night you'll have at this plaece

Arran House is very well located, right on Gower Street, close to the British Museum and just a short walk away from the city centre. The place is very clean and the staff unfailingly helpful (Rojas, in particular, was nice and even caring). However, be aware that bathrooms are shared, rooms are tiny and hallways can be a little noisy. Breakfast was good, though. The hotel works very well for a budget visit to London (one of the most expensive cities in the world), but if you have some additional pounds to spare, find another hotel on the same street.

Room Tip: Do NOT accept a room close to the stairs landing. It gets awfully noisy. Request one on one of the h...
