“Centrally located and Comfortably Appointed Property!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

We visited the Staunton in late August 2013. Unfortunately, we were only in London for the night on our way to Eastern Europe, but we had a wonderful experience at this hotel and would highly recommend it.
The Staunton is located very close to the British Museum in a quieter part of town that is really pretty central considering how close the hotel is to the tube etc. The hotel itself is a smaller property, but nicely appointed. The clerk was helpful and checked us in very quickly.
Our room was at the VERY top floor of the hotel. This wouldn't have been a problem, but I was 5 months pregnant at the time and walking that many steep narrow steps was a little difficult. An elevator would be a nice addition, but I have a feeling that might not be something that is easily done.
The room itself was smaller, but had a large very comfortable king bed, a desk, tv, a bathroom with a blow dryer and shower, as well as a pretty view from the window to the street below. The hallway to the bedroom was rather quite, although it was inexplicably very hot. Our room was fine as it had air conditioning.
We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast which included cooked-to-order eggs, cereal, fruit, bread and juice. It was rather standard, but worked fine for us.
All in all, for a short stay, we had a great experience. I know London is rather pricey and this place is comparatively affordable. I would highly recommend the Staunton for couples traveling with a short stay in London, although it may not be the best choice for families with children.given the small staircase and the size of the rooms.

Room Tip: Remember there is no elevator!

Dear AlwysL8r,

Thank you for taking the time to post such a nice review about our hotel.
We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay with us, and found our location and facilities comfortably appointed.
Being a listed building we are not allowed to have a lift, as you have noticed. But, if requested in advance, we will do our best to accommodate guests on ground or first floor.
We do appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you at our hotel in the future.

I went to London for a little bit of business, and a little bit of pleasure. The Staunton was in the perfect place for both. I found an awesome Greek restaurant right around the corner, the location was perfect and within walking distance of three tube stops, and the friendly family owned atmosphere was welcoming yet extremely efficient.

I don't know if I will ever stay anywhere else.

The hotel is within easy walking distance of central London and can be reached from a number of different tube stops (Euston Sq, Goodge or closet is Russell St). It is an old town house (maybe two) and has compact, clean rooms with lovely ensuite bathrooms. There was an ac unit and this helped for a comfortable night when it was unusually hot. The staff were very friendly and happy to help out with advice and printing off boarding passes. The breakfast was a buffet with a hot menu option at no extra cost. An altogether great find that I will certainly be using again next time I visit London.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back as I think the road is quite a busy one and I think might get noisy. The back...

Staff was really friendly.Perfect for walking distance to shopping and all main areas and if you didn't want to go to far there were lots of pubs and places to eat just a stone throw away . The room was really nice. The breakfast was nice. Will Definitely be staying there again

We picked this hotel based on the location - close to the Dominion Theatre. Turned out it was also very well located for the British Museum. Room was comfortable. Bathroom just had a shower and was small but clean. Breakfast was good and we easily got a table in the restaurant.

The first night the aircondition started leaking right on our bed,
The second night the shower head broke and wet all the bathroom,
The third night mice joined us in our room,
The fourth night we left!!!

Just back from a Friday/Saturday weekend break in London to watch Mama Mia (would recommend) Stayed at the Staunton Hotel which was brilliant. Don't understand some of the recent reviews about the hotel. Take it from me I am very fussy about where I stay and this hotel was great. We stayed in Room 303 on the 3rd floor and was a triple room. There is no lift but we just got on with it. The reception staff were great and very helpful. The room was spotless, warm but once we used the air conditioning it was fine and that did help. Shower was great. The mini bar was well stocked but we didn't use it since we had bought our own alcohol. Sheets were clean, no holes and the mattress was very comfortable. When we went down for breakfast we had to wait but that only took around 5 minutes because the dining room is small but once seated breakfast was lovely (and I don't usually do full English breakfast). Would recommend this hotel, however if you struggle to walk up stairs this is not the hotel for you unless you get the first floor. Even left our suitcases when we went out shopping on the Saturday since we were catching the train back at 6pm. Looking at going back again in the next 3 months

Room Tip: We booked the triple room (303) since there were 3 of us but its on the 3rd floor and there is no li...
