“Basement room, intermittent electricty!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Hotel lobby looked incredibly impressive on the website and upon checking in, however room did not meet up to expectations. We were assigned a double on the basement level of the hotel, it was a box room with a view onto a flight of stairs- we found out this flight of stairs was used by staff (loudly) at 1AM both nights for delivery purposes, bedding and towels? We were not warned of this and had a disrupted night's sleep on the both nights of our stay because of this.

The electricity in the basement room was also a problem- the first morning of staying the power cut out three times (6AM, 8.30AM and 10AM). We had to wait 15 minutes for a member of staff to come and look at this, and we had to visit reception twice to ask what was going on before somebody finally came. This was problematic considering we were in a hurry and needed to get ready. We were told by the member of staff that eventually arrived to look at the circuit breaker that it was 'something we were plugging in that was causing the power cuts'...surely we should be able to plug in things such as hair straighteners/laptop/whatever without causing a power shortage?? They had enough power outlets in the room to suggest this. We determined that it was NOT anything we were plugging in when the power cut out for a third time as we were leaving- we noticed that the rest of the basement area was also having power problems.

The room is basic in function but kept clean, it had a small bathroom, just enough space for baggage (a weekend's worth). There was no air-con and the windows were not double-glazed. The breakfast was adequate, and excellent that it was included in the price of the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but by the second time our power had cut, still seemed resilient to offer us a different room. To pick this hotel would be mainly for the location, as Paddington tube station is literally a walk around the corner and Hyde park a short stroll in the other direction. Would not stay here again, nor would recommend to a friend.

Thank you for leaving a comment. The issue with the electricity was resolved on the same day. If guests are unhappy with rooms we have larger rooms available at an appropriate price and subject to availability we are happy to accomodate changes should guests request this. Please read our facilities as stated on our website.

First Impression of reception was very good and the staff seemed quite polite and friendly. Was given a room in the basement which with no window opening to outside for some fresh air was not good. Room smelt musty as soon as we opened the door and it is the first thing that we smelt as soon as we woke up. Breakfast choice was not very impressive. On returning the key at the end of our stay, it was just taken from us without a word spoken to us! Although this was a Hyde Park Hotel, our room was definately not worth £100 per night.

We are in process of an ongoing renovation of all the rooms and the response has been very positive. The prices are decent for being located in central London. Thank you for leaving a comment!

I stayed with friends for 4 nights. We were 5 persons and had 2 twins and 1 double room. Each one was different mine had a hall before entering the main room and their size was adequate apart from the bathroom which was very small. In the double room the toilet was in different room from the shower. The shower is not removable so it is quite uncomfortable. And there is only shower gel not shampoo. The rooms were clean and they changed the towels every day. There were also cups, a boiler and tea or coffee that we could have in the room. The breakfast was poor, it could certainly have wider range... The receptionists were very kind and helpfull with every question we had. The neighbourhood is good with lots of hotels in the row.. Around the corner you can taste fish and chips and there is also a pub but we didn't tried it. The nearest metro station is 15 minutes away and on foot Oxford street is about 25 minutes away. In general it was a good experience though it could be less expensive.

I stayed for 4 nights with my husband and didn't expect much as the price we paid was really reasonable for London stay. We had a good experience with decent clean room, adequately sized-not too small plus daily complimentary breakfast which was good. Very helpful and friendly receptions, very near Tube Station at Lancaster Gate Central Line and Paddington Tube and Train Stations for other lines and the Heathrow Express. It is located at Sussex Gardens which is really central and easily accessible by bus and easy walk to Queensway, Bayswater, Edgeware Road, Marble Arch and Oxford Street. Ample choices of nearby restaurants and halal food outlets including KFC, Chinese, Arab/Lebanese and Malaysian cuisine. Will stay here next trip to London.

This hotel is perfectly situated near the Paddington underground station. There are plenty of restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The size of the room is sufficient but the bathroom is very small and poorly maintained (old shower curtain, old wall tiles, door neads repainting). The breakfast could offer a wider range of food. The employees were very friendly and efficient.

My wife and I stayed two nights at this hotel. The entrance is very impressive but that is where the best impressions ceased. I understand that the price was very reasonable but we were shocked when we were shown our room. The room was the smallest hotel room I have ever encountered. There was one double bed with a small stand next to it. No cupboard. We had two suitcases and there was no place to put the cases, not even under the bed. We had to put them in the one foot space at the end of the bed which I then had to climb over to get to bed. One of us had to sit on the bed while the other got dressed, it was that small. The floor creaked so much I thought it was going to collapse, Bathroom incredibly tiny. No A/C so had to have the window open for air so no sleep due to constant noise, not their fault of course. The breakfast room was like a zoo. At least they had a luggage room which they allowed us to store our luggage on our last morning whilst we looked around

Thank you for your comments.
We are located in listed buildings (dated to the 1830s) and a few of our rooms are small but adequate for purpose. We also have one and two bedroom suites lounge and kitchen areas and en suite bathrooms. Please enquire about the availability of this accommodation on your next visit.
