“Ideal For Visiting London's South Bank”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

The Premier Inn, Borough Market, Southwark in London is ideal for anyone needing an inexpensive place to stay while visiting London's South Bank.

Like many in the chain this is a no-frills hotel and that's reflected in the price. You get an ensuite room with Freeview flatscreen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and not much else, but if you're out all day visiting the sites, what more do you need?

I stayed there for five nights and the room was quiet and comfortable. It's away from the main roads and railways so there was just the sound of the occasional helicopter overhead.

The Anchor pub adjoins the hotel and you can reach it from a walkway on the first floor. It's a pub with several rooms and eating options. Hotel breakfasts are served there too. However, there are other places to eat nearby. There's a Wagamama across the road, and a Zizzi, Pizza Express and a Greek restaurant two minutes walk away along the river. If you don't want to eat your breakfast in the pub then go to the 'Eat' cafe on the river which is underneath the Zizzi restaurant. They open at 7am and a bacon bap, banana and coffee are a cheaper alternative to the cooked breakfast in the pub!

Just a few minutes walk from hotel is The Globe theatre and Tate Modern. Across the Millenium Bridge (pedestrian) you can see St Paul's, and if you cross over to the north side of the Thames you can walk along the Victoria Embankment and take in the many views. While you're on the bridge itself pause to spot the landmarks east and west on the river You're in a handy location to explore London whether you want to go east or west on the river itself, or walk/cycle around the heart of the city.

Room Tip: The pub could get noisy on summer evenings to bear that in mind when choosing a room.

In a perfect situation within walking distance of Westminster, The City, St Pauls, Borough Market and the South Bank theatres. It's a quiet rather secret place that we found after staying many times in expensive hotels on the river that were really no better. After all, when in London we don't use the hotel rooms very much and never eat in hotels. For the price it can't be faulted.

Excellent value considering position really clean and spacious and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Great for borough market, Tate modern, St Paul's and a host of other attractions. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Breakfast was okay although I would probably seek out less traditional fare and cooked to order.

Hard to believe perhaps, but this is a budget hotel in a really fantastic location. I really have some difficulty writing this review, because I can't find anything to criticise and I really don't want the place to become too popular, but I feel I owe it to my good fortune in stumbling upon the place and to the staff.
Everyone on reception was friendly and helpful. The hotel is right by the river and very close to Borough Market.
Didn't bother with Breakfast at the Anchor next door - grubby tourist trap. Walked for half a dozen minutes to Terry's Cafe. Lovely.
Well done to everyone who works there.

This is a brilliant place to stay in London. The location is amazing and the buzz of Borough Market on a Saturday is not to be missed. The hotel was clean, friendly and the noise from outside was not too bad considering how central the location is. The breakfast is fantastic and we loved the decor of the Pub/restaurant. The kids said it reminded them of Diagon Alley in a Harry Potter film!! The chef came round and did magic tricks for the kids. Brilliant!!

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room and one that overlooks the carpark

We staying here for 3 nights during february half term with our young daughter and it was the best priced family london accommodation we have ever stayed in. Room was good size and the bed was huge. Usual clean premier inn standard and we had breakfast each day which was of a good standard although we would advise to go before 9am as it was really busy being half term. The hotels position was absolutely ideal - so quiet and right next to the fabulous south bank riverside walk with a wide range of restaurants & pubs close by. London Eye, Tate, Globe Theatre and Tower Bridge, Tower of London all within easy walking distance. Would definately stay here again.
