“Top Notch Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I stopped over here before a Sunday flight from Heathrow primarily because my default choice (Hilton Edgware Road) was full. I might stay here again as a first choice next time. Reception was prompt and efficient and I was upgraded to a suite on the top floor, including a complimentary mini-bar, which was a great bonus. The room also came with a proper bath, which I always prefer to the standard Doubletree shower only so that made the evening even more pleasant.

Everything was clean, functional and working and I had an excellent night's sleep and a nice buffet breakfast. Overall, a faultless stay and a lesson to some of the supposedly more up-market Hilton hotels.

Room Tip: If you can afford or get an upgrade to a suite then go for it!

Stayed for one night on a trip up to London. The hotel is in a good location and offers value for money. The rooms are a reasonable size and they all have Apple TV and internet access. We sent a couple of documents to the printer and these were delivered to our room within minutes. Very impressive service! Staff are friendly and helpful. Taxi's are plentiful and the hotel is in a good area for tourists with several attractions nearby. We opted for the room upgrade and breakfast was included.

The only thing that let it down for us is that we got a very poor night's sleep due to the firmness of the mattress (it was very firm(!)) and lumpy hard pillows. I agree totally with a previous reviewer, they were like rocks. We were apparently in a newly refurbished room and a member of staff admitted that the new mattresses may seem extra firm. Nevertheless, a decent night's sleep is important and perhaps the hotel should be using mattress toppers. We were told that we could have requested extra pillows and maybe we should have done, but we didn't return to the hotel until late at night and only realised then how hard they were when we actually got into bed. Perhaps we should have been more demanding and contacted housekeeping then.

On that basis, I wouldn't book this hotel again which is a shame because, apart from that, it couldn't be faulted!

Room Tip: Ask for a mattress topper and extra (soft) pillows. Also consider requesting an upgrade when bookin...

Stayed here 1 night last night, easy to find on foot, Pimlico Tube I would say is more like 10 mins than 5 in one direction or Westminster Tube 15 mins in the other direction. Usually a couple of black cabs outside the front door, cost from hotel to Waterloo station £6.20 during the day. No shops or restaurants in the immediate area, but 5 mins walk and there are a scant selection, ie newsagents, pub and cafe. Welcome - huge warm chocolate chip cookie and a pleasant european receptionist, did have trouble understanding the young lady, english good but spoke so fast and strong accent! They take a swipe of your credit card for the booked fee and £50 on top which I think was for the mini bar! Price included breakfast £167 (£21.75 for breakfast) booked direct with the hotel (HHonors and MOD rate). Room on 11th floor upgrade for £30 extra to deluxe (includes water in room apparently). First impressions, clean, nice decoration, light, view just of the Thames but mainly of a huge office block. Found a pair of ladies knickers in the Tea/Coffee draw - not what I expected amongst a sachet of Nescafe! Nice walk in shower, no bath, toiletries Crabtree & Evelyn Citrus - very nice. Tv through Imac not bad sound but small to watch from the bed. The bed - very hard, plump feathery pillows and nice crisp white linen. The aircon/heating very noisy fan system, not by temperature but by either cold or hot. Had room service which was very efficient, Burger and Fries £20.50 nice burger lot of fries no greenery, which would have been nice. Ice machine by lifts on about 4 of the room floors. Mini bar prices bit expensive. Didn't use the bar or the cafe for breakfast so can't comment. Check out had to queue for about 10 mins, different european receptionist bit better to understand , not interested in the unwelcome pair of discarded ladies knickers, but not a great issue for me, just not a pleasant find! Would recommend though, convenient and reasonably comfortable for business trip.

I am writing this at 2 am. Why? I can't sleep on pillows like rocks!

We have booked two nights here and so far (having come from a fantastic Doubletree in Milton Keynes 90 minutes away, I am terribly disappointed.

- The wireless Internet in the room is so bad that it is practically useless. We did try to see if there was a problem going on with it, but were told by the network person they sent to the room that " it just isn't good in many of the rooms".

- There is a large red stain on the carpet that looks like blood which is entirely unsettling.

- The pillows are like rocks. So hard that after three hours of sleep I woke. Up with a stiff neck. I called to ask if there were softer pillows as I had been told that all Doubletrees use the same pillows, but this is it and the response came with a good deal of " attitude"

- having an iMac for a television? Small screen and four channels. Makes no sense.

- I am an HH member, but even so, was placed on the second floor with zero view.

- five minutes after I rang and asked not to be disturbed, a call was put through to my room

- the heating system is very touchy with either cold or hot air blowing on you from a ceiling vent and no happy medium.

- some of the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful while others are seriously rude! After a nice man had connected meto a local phone number, I called again to the front asking for the same thing and was treated like an imbecile who couldn't suss out how to dial a phone while she added, " it's not free you know"!

- I'm seriously thinking about moving hotels as for over 300USD per night, this is not at all what It should be and I AMA person who far more often writes great reviews when merited than poor reviews. Things have to be very negative for me to bother.

Pluses

- The room service dinner I had was prompt and very tasty

- the room design is modern and attractive with nice lighting

We stayed one night Sat 23rd Feb 2013.

Very welcoming reception & loved the cookies on arrival (nice touch). Staff were brilliant & friendly.

Was slightly disappointed by our room, very small, queen size bed (small) & tiny bathroom with no bath. I am a member of the HHonors scheme & would have hoped for larger room!

Liked the fact the TV was replaced by an Apple Mac. The bar area was great and very chilled to enjoy a drink.

Despite other reviews I thought location of hotel was good, easy walking distance to Big Ben. Its a short walk from Pimilco tube station (5 minutes or 10 if you take your time).

On the pricey side but considering the location okay. Nice room, like the Mac! No bath made up for by good shower. Music in the bar gets on your nerves if your not a teenager! Very polite, good humoured and kind staff.
