I was looking for a hotel in Canary Wharf via the internet for a group of 3 friends wanting to celebrate a ‘big’ birthday and stumbled across Fraser Place apartments.
I read the reviews and decided to book a deluxe room as part of a weekend package on the internet. The package included a car parking space and limited grocery pack (orange juice, fruit, chocolate cookies, bottled water, kettle crisps) and which arrived about an hour or so after we’d checked in.
As our apartment wasn’t ready when we arrived earlier than the advertised check-in time, we were offered the option of waiting for our deluxe room or paying a small upgrade price for a bigger executive apartment. We opted to upgrade and paid the £250 deposit via credit card as mentioned elsewhere on this site.
Our apartment (1311) was on the top floor with a fabulous view to the O2 and new cable car on one side and the Olympic ArcelorMittal Orbit structure in the distance on the other.
We had 2 bedrooms, one with double bed and the other with 2 singles. Both had en-suite bathrooms (the double having a separate shower and bath, the singles having a bath with shower over). There was also a separate wc in the hallway. The lounge had a flat screen tv, 2 double sofas plus 2 other comfy chairs.
The kitchen was well equipped with large fridge, microwave, single oven, dishwasher, washing machine and a window overlooking the O2. We had also been supplied with fairy liquid, dish washer tablets, and a tea towel (no oven gloves though!)
There is some building work being carried out in the building but as we only stayed 1 night it didn’t spoil our enjoyment at all.
We had planned on going out to eat but the apartment was so fab that we decided instead to stay in for a tv dinner – we don’t often get the chance to get together and just chill! We had stocked up on food before arriving but there is a Waitrose at this end of the shopping centre and a Tesco Express a little further on.
The Fraser Place apartments are a 5-10 minute walk to Canada/Cabot Square where you can pick up the Jubilee line and be in central London (Oxford/Bond Street) within 20 minutes. There is also a multitude of bars, cafes, and a small shopping centre (although underground which felt a little claustrophobic).
After we’d checked out the following day, we left our car and took the tube into Central London for shopping. On our return later and as the sun was shining we took advantage of being able to sit outside and have pre-dinner drinks and snacks at the bars around Canada Square. We also had dinner at Jamie's Italian before heading off home.
All in all, this was an excellent choice of accommodation. It completely suited our needs of being able to stay together as opposed to 2 separate hotel rooms and in ‘proper’ beds and we found the staff very friendly, helpful and amenable.
The apartment far exceeded my expectations and I would have absolutely no hesitation in either recommending them or for booking them again in the future.
Thank you for helping to make my friend’s birthday treat special!
