I visit London every 4 years or so with friends to sitesee. We like to stay in the Paddington Area as we are familiar with the area and it is close to the Underground. I share an room with another adult so I always have a twin room.

Castleton Hotel: rooms are small but they are small at all budget hotels. Think cruise ship, versus an American hotel. Bathrooms are small but sames goes for every hotel I've stayed in London. The Castleton was clean, housekeeping was great, and the full English Breakfast in the morning was quick and tasty. Staff was friendly and helpful. I left my backpack (probably due to jetlag) in the lobby, and they put it in storage for me when I came back. Having a lift to get luggage to the room was a first of me for a hotel of this type.

Would definitely stay here again.

Problems: Not very warm showers. The temperature could only be adjusted to mildy warm. Hot showers would have been most welcome on a cold winter night. Temperature in the room could be a bit warm even after turning the thermostat to 18C. Housekeeping always turned the heat up while clean room. Tea kettle in room for tea in the morning was a plus as well.

Completely refurbished (unusual for this area), reasonably priced (£46), spacious (unusual for this area) and friendly, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel

The breakfast buffet is "traditional (i.e. fairly limited range) but served to a high standards in a very pleasant basement room, the wifi is good, there is a lift (unusual for this area) and the staff are friendly

I had some slight difficulty with the heating and the hot water supply to the shower (it was minus 3 outside) but the bathroom is modern, clean, well appointed with good quality toiletries, liquid "milk-like-substance" for the coffee (instead of powder) but otherwise no complaints whatsoever

I have stayed at the Castleton a few times before. It's very close to Paddington Station, so a good underground service is almost on the doorstep. I find the prices of the rooms at this hotel fluctuate a great deal, so I only use the hotel if the price is a good one when I look it up on the internet.
I will make one point over and above the common thread comments already covered by other contributors here. Some of the rooms are on half landings, so the lift might not stop at the same landing as your room number would suggest. A few trips up and down the lift or stairs will soon give you a reasonable understanding of the hotel layout though

i agree with many other positive reviews.A decent hotel at a reasonable price. Single room was small, but clean and comfortable .Self service cooked breakfast was excellent, with good quality sausages and bacon. I would be happy to stay again.
