“Great Pub near Hyde/Green Parks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

Found this out of the way pub during a historic walk in London (Frommes 24 Great London Walks. Great atmosphere. Had the Chef's pie of the day (chicken and mushroom) and it was awesome. Very friendly and helpful staff. You have to look for this pub as it is not on the main streets and seems miles away from the bustle of London but worth the search. Enjoy. Visited April 22, 2012.

“Great 'ol British pub!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

As always, The Grenadier was a perfect choice for a great night out in a traditional British pub. We have visited often in the past, but not in the last few years and were nearly put off by the recent negative reviews on food quality and service. Happilly we can report on 19th March, 2012 The Grenadier was as always; great food with lovely & friendly service (thank's Patrick!) We recommend The Grenadier to everyone who is looking for an iconically British pub and good grub! Cheers!

“Worth a visit for its atmosphere but expect few locals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

We've been going to the Grenadier since what is now the Lanesborough Hotel was St Georges Hospital, in the late 1960s. Then, the pub was virtually an extension of the Medical School bar. Little has changed in the decor but now it is a tourist haunt and we saw no locals there at all when we visited for a meal. The fast-talking host/waiter was polite, slick and efficient, although his Irish accent might be difficult for those without English as their mother tongue. The food was good, standard British fare and served quickly and efficiently. What took as aback was, when the otherwise reasonable bill was presented, it had hand-written on it "Optional 15% gratuity added". This is an outrageous practice. It may be the norm across the Atlantic to try this on, but nowhere in the UK have we ever seen this sort of thing tried. Service should be rewarded if the customer feels it is worthy of it, not have a gratuity insuinuated on them. And staff should be paid properly, not have to rely on tips. We opted for a lesser sum and left,., disappointed. In summary, it is worth a visit for its real historical Guards regimental association and atmosphere. The food is good and served efficiently, but don't fall for suggested tips!

“Hyde (Park) and seek great bloody Marys at this very cool spot”

Hard to find.
Great fun. New painting/serigraph by Leroy Neiman will only fuel attendance
