“Bed bugs, in general a dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011

I chose the hotel for the location. I've been travelling to developing countries but never have I seen a hole like this.

A lot of noise in the hotel at night.

Bed bugs. This hotel is terribly infested. I haven't slept a minute. They promised me a refund but in the end I got nothing.

There are many much better hotels on the same street (I found one in the middle of the night when I ran away from the bugs).

Stayed at this hotel for the first time earlier this week. It's much better than many of the other reviews suggest. Would I stay here with my wife? Very unlikely but would I stay here again as a single business traveller paying nett account who wants a comfortable bed and hot water? For sure I would. Hotel is basic but reasonable and includes a full English breakfast in the room price. Wifi is free but only available in the reception area. Staff were friendly with the Albanian receptionist particularly friendly and helpful.

We stayed for one night. Reception was welcoming, room on 4th floor, no lift. Room clean, reasonable size. Bathroom a little tired, but clean. Room was quiet, bed comfortable. Breakfast room is in basement, a little cramped. Food was fine, service friendly. Hotel is situated 10 min walk from Paddington station, 10 mins from Hyde Park. Suited our requirements well. Very good value, perfectly adequate.

Room Tip: Bear in mind no lift. Rooms at back quiet.

Need we say more? We arrived for a two night stay and our instant reaction was that the hotel was run down. As we booked through late rooms for a reasonable price we thought nothing more until my partner awoke on the second morning to find she had been eaten alive by bed bugs. After our return home my partner had to take a 2 week course of antibiotics such was the severity of her reaction to the bites. The hotel have since refused to refund us our money but luckily for us and you (if you are considering a stay there) we took some photos of our ordeal. Incidentally the breakfast included in the price was inedible (not an understatement!). BED BUGS! INEDIBLE FOOD! SMELLY ROOM! DO NOT STAY HERE!

Room Tip: Pick another hotel!

We chose this hotel for its proximity to Hyde Park as we were attending 'Proms In The Park' and stayed for two nights. Again we went with an open mind having read varied reviews on here.

To be frank the hotel is in need of complete modernisation. The rooms are small (we were in room 303 which is quite a hike up the steep, narrow stairs) and our bathroom, although having adequate facilities was smelly, mainly due to extractor fan not working and not very clean. The lid on the toilet cistern was broken and water was leaking from underneath. The preferred method of rectification of any problem appears to be to just smother it in silicone sealant. This was evident around the taps and shower area too. Apart from that, the wardrobe door fell off when pulled open and there was evidence of a bodged repair (including silicone sealant). The rest of the room was 'acceptable' with clean sheets even though we found a Pot Noodle soy sauce sachet at the side of one of the beds.

In the stair/lobby area there was clear evidence of a lack of cleaning with dust piled on the top of most surfaces including the fire alarm bell and hanging pictures.

Breakfast was the usual Cereal and 'Full English' with OJ and tea/coffee. The quality and quantity were poor and too many things were deep fried. We never bothered to go on the second morning.

The staff were friendly and helpful but this didn't detract from a fairly disappointing stay. If you are thinking of staying in this area then I would recommend paying a little extra for a better quality hotel.

Think small: Small room, small bath, small stairway. Be prepared to carry your suitcase up to your room. Breakfast was a good start to each day, full English if you wanted it. Front reception was rather ornery, but let you keep your own drinks in the fridge at reception if you asked nicely. Housekeeping/breakfast staff were nice. Bathroom could definitely use a lot of updating.

We had a 3 nights stay at this hotel. It has a great location very close to Paddington station and Hyde Park. It is more than enough for people who go for sightseeing and walking all over London, as it is clean and basically furbished for getting a shower and a good sleep. We actually stayed in the hotel for these only.

The staff was quite nice and helpful. Breakfast was pretty poor, but it can be easily improved with some vegetables and fruits.

Would not recommend for longer staying or more than a city break/ sightseeing travel.

Room Tip: 201 looked old but felt comfy:)
