[I'm posting this review here as I posted it on a small review site at the time and don't think anyone will read it]
Don't eat here.
Just bought take away phu from here, walked 200m down the road and the paper bag split from a loose lid on the soup pot. The bottom fell out and soup/stir fried broccoli fell onto the pavement via my foot/trouser leg.
Walking back in and explaining this I'm told to sit down and then that I'd need to show evidence of this to get a replacement, because "you could have done anything with the food".
Now bear in mind I've been into this place about 10 times in last year (as it's basically the only "healthy" take away place on my walk home from the station), as well as housemate and GF getting takeaways .. And this seems completely ridiculous.
I said no, it's all over the floor, and You've already wasted my time, the Manager said she was too busy to walk down and see the evidence (!) and that I had to bring back the bag at least.
After an argument in the middle of the restaurant I did this, then when I return she says the owner has told her that's not enough (like I would have poured soup onto the paper bag, ripped the bottom out and returned just so I could get an extra £12 of food!! Cunning plan).
The owner/big boss man was downstairs and wouldn't even come up to speak to me , he was relaying messages via the puppet. If its who I think it is, he probably would have recognised me as a regular customer and realised I wasn't ripping him off.
So she sends out a staff member to check the pavement, who returns a few mins later to confirm the death of the aforementioned food. The manager then proudly announces that they will make a replacement like I should be grateful!
When the replacement finally comes (about 20 minutes after my return), instead of an apology, she says that next time, once the food crosses the door, it is no longer their responsibility and they would not replace anything again. She just had to chuck that in.
Actually moron - It's your responsibility to ensure the packaging suits the task. (1) the soup lid wasn't secured properly, how about even 2 cm of sticky tape to keep it in place? (2) the Lid even has holes in which allow liquid out! (3) you give takeaway soup in paper bags which rip when wet (4) even the cardboard stir fry boxes don't stay shut.
But anyway, there won't be a replacement in the future because I will never eat here again - neither will my housemate, my girlfriend or his girlfriend. For average food at high-ish prices you at least expect good service, and even more so being a regular.
To the owner, was it really worth the possible saving of £5 of food to cook another meal straight away instead of basically accusing me of scamming you out of a meal?!
If you had, you could have (1) avoided losing 4 customers (2)
avoided the 20 people in the restaurant seeing a full on argument between me and the manager and (3) prevented me putting this review up.
Oh yeah, both the phu and the stir fry greens were too salty.
I work down near Shoreditch/Kingsland Road where there are loads of great Vietnamese places at half the price.
