I booked into the Westland at the last minute and thought that was the reason we paid what I thought was a lot more than this place is worth- judging by other reviews it is always on the pricey side.... Staff were friendly and hotel was rather old fashioned and quaint- our room though was large ( for London) as was the bathroom, and it seemed clean.
The hotel was excellently located near two tube stations and across from Kensington Palace and Hyde Park which was nice, also not far from Queensway which has a good assortment of places to eat as well as Boots and a couple of supermarkets for snacks, and the Whiteleys shopping centre.
The decor was a bit hectic tho, with patterned carpets, curtains, furniture and bedcover, all of it different, all rather old fashioned. The Internet was quite ridiculous- 10 minutes a day free, but so slow I wasn't even able to do online checkin for one of us. Another downside was nowhere secure to leave our luggage during the day after we checked out (Our plane was not til 10pm) Instead of a separate room which is locked, as many hotels have, our bags were left in a side room that led to a staircase.
Breakfast was so-so, and the trek to get to the breakfast room made me a touch claustrophobic.
The staff in general were nice- I returned to the room one day with a large bunch of flowers and the lady on the desk immediately offered me a vase, which was nice. Overall it wasn't awful but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone else.
