“Worried when I got there. Amazed by the time I left.”
My other half arranged this restaurant as a birthday treat. When we arrived, there were about 15 people in the queue ahead of us and it took about 45 minutes until we were seated, (first through the door, then to the bar, then to a table). When I walked in, my first impression was: "Oh my God, he's brought me to a loud rock bar!, Why? Why?". It's very dimly lit, the rock music is loud, the decor is...er..different. At the bar, the choice is from a few selected wines, 5/6 different beers/lagers (all served in the can unless you request a glass) and many, many cocktails. the bar staff were quick and efficient, polite and friendly. The conversation is shouted - the music is that loud. Moving around is like being in a club - shoulder to shoulder, squeezed in, but with trays of burgers and fries being expertly transported above your head. Once seated (for us on a high table with stools), helpful and friendly waiting staff took our order promptly and our food arrived quickly despite being very busy. Then it happened! The most AMAZING burgers we have ever tasted. Just so delicious - I wish I had the vocabulary to describe them but I just don't. Fries were good, slaw was good, chicken wings were good, but the burgers were like nothing I've ever tasted before. If the run up to the food sounds negative...well..the atmosphere is definitely an acquired taste, it is worth putting up with it just for the food. And people were either putting up with it or loving it because as we left the queue was about 150 people long (8pm), they must have been waiting hours. All for those burgers. No frills, inexpensive, but fantastic. Children aren't allowed after 6pm.
