“Good service not so good food:(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

My self and a friend went for Sunday lunch and after desperately craving my lovely roast It was so disappointing. Now I don't mind at all paying good money for good food but this was not good food at all and I actually ended up leaving most as did my friend! The yorkies were burnt, the chicken was pink and the potatoes had an obvious taste of reheating which was not pleasant and that was after you could finally get for knife through the potato that was so over cooked on the outside it was rock solid, now for around £16 for a roast dinner I was expecting a lot better. Now also will add as think this really needs to be looked at is that as you are eating your food you do not want the constant smell of peoples number two's from the toilet wafting in the restaurant while your eating which happened a total of 5 times just while sitting at the table was awful.

“What? A parlour in Kensal Rise?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Just off a dusty and grey High Street tucked into a small side street is this rather trendy place that has an equally trendy young bunch of after work revellers. This would have been more in sync with Ladbroke Grove or Portobello Road, but maybe the owners can see what's coming for Kensal Rise and are ahead of the game. It has a nice ambience (perhaps a little kitsch in places) but the overall feel is interesting and inviting. There is an outdoor area which would be very nice on a good summer evening. Try the boiled pheasants eggs.

“Great food and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

The Mall Tavern has moved to Kensel Rise, well the brains behind it at least, and it is obvious the moment you walk in. Great open bar layout, good dining room space an a great beer garden. The food is as good as the mall tavern used to be, only there seems to now be an even greater variety and freedom in the menu that was not present before. The same goes for the drinks menu, great range of beers and the wine list is good. It's a great place for dinner or just a drink in the gardens, check it out!

“Good cow pie, slightly disinterested service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Visited with friend for an impromptu dinner. Found the room slightly gloomy but liked the beer selection. 'shabby chic interior, just about gets away with it.
Water is served in tin jugs, our had a rusty bottom so felt compelled to order a bottle. Homemade bread at a price proved hard but had good flavour. Scallops were good, Chicken popcorn average, pate was good. For mains, the general feeling was the cow pie, with the melting marrowbone was the star dish. Unctuous and meaty with a good proper crust. The Kiev slightly disappointed as it looked so good and delivered less. I am sure most people would have found this to be a good dish..and it looked like they were selling well, but on a point of culinary taste, it felt like it needed more garlic, more flavour, more taste. Steaks were served at the right level of cooking, but a med rare steak was still cold and the rare steak was a little colder than that.
Service was ok, if a little disinterested and I felt no warmth from the service staff, as I am sure they felt no feelings about me..dessert made an appearance and were enjoyed, which at least left a warm ending. Around £40 per head with some wine.

“Good pub, good beers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

Excellent range of unusual beers on the tap, belgium, czech and even american
Not bad food too, a bit expensive but not pretentious.gastro pub fare, did have the COW PIE which was good.
Decor is upto the minute "industrial" look which seems to be the "in look" that started a few years a go. So what looks like cast off tables and chairs, actually costs plenty £££
Give it a try
