“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2006

The hotel wasslightly down-at-heel but you get what you pay for and this hotel was terrific value. Only 10 minutes from the West End and we were able to park our car. We also enjoyed a great walk up to Hampstead Village plus a day out on Hampstead Heath. No transport costs or problems to see a lovely part of London. The breakfast was included in the price and was perfectly adequate; the room was clean and comfortable but noisy since it was on the Finchely Road corner, but we got used to this. The main thing for us was being able to park our car free, whilst staying within 10 minutes of the centre of London. We have already booked to stay again.

  • Liked — its location, so close to the tube then a short journey into london
  • Disliked — The noise from Finchley Road
  • Tips/Secrets — Ask for a room at the back of the h otel

For the amount we paid, this motel was a pretty good deal. My wife and I recently spent 4 nights here. To summarize:

Pros:
-Location is in very nice Hampstead Heath neighborhood.
-Jubilee tube line, large grocery store, modern cinema, and launderette all within easy 5 min walk.
-Room was clean, with properly functioning fixtures in bathroom. (Shower was hot with good pressure)
-Predominantly foreign staff was friendly and accommodating. Language barriers were not an issue.
-Free continental breakfast was impressively good (as far as free continental breakfasts go) For 2 pounds extra you have the option to go with the full English breakfast.
-Lobby contains an updated bar with a plasma TV and decent Internet access.
-Late check-ins are allowed (But call to make sure)

Cons:
-If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room that does not face the street. The traffic noise from Finchley road is excessive and relentless.
-Room windows pivot to be opened, revealing years of accumulated filth on the outside of the widow. Also there are permanently attached (and dirty) curtains, which cannot be opened. This means you must open the window to see out.
-Radiator emitted heat even when off...this forced us to sleep with the windows open, thus letting in the noise, cigarette smoke, and at times, a garbage smell from somewhere. This would be a tough place to stay during the summertime.
-Lobby and bar permanently reek of cigarette smoke.
-Elevator is antiquated and slooooooow.
-Beds are small, but comfortable. If you wish to sleep together, be prepared to push two small beds together (really not a big deal, though)

In hindsight, this is a good hotel to stay at for one or two nights. As I have seen and heard, there are many more hotels in London that are much, much worse than this one. In the end, the great location and good breakfast ultimately outweighed the negative aspects. I would consider staying here again for a shorter period, and with a few minor adjustments.

My wife and I stayed there for four nights. There was nothing terribe about the place (other than the fact that our room overlooked the garbage pick-up), but nothing wonderful about it either. If you are looking for a large TV or an in-room safe, keep looking. However, unlike some other hotels (the Park International Hotel, for example), they do not charge you to leave luggage before you check-in or after you check-out on the day of departure

The two best things going for this completely average hotel is that it is quiet and very convemoemt (only a 2-3 minute walk from the Finchley Road stop on the Jubilee & Metropolitan Lines, and then only 10 minutes to Green Park).

The fact that it is not right in central Lonodn makes it far more afforable and worthy of consideration.

Stayed here for 5 nights and found it perfectly adequate. Clean, normal bathroom with ok shower, beds fairly comfortable. Location was great for a 5-10 minute tube ride (Jubilee Line) to everywhere. For the rate I paid on the hotels website, including a decent breakfast, I would recommend this hotel, unless you are looking for luxury. There was nothing to really find fault with it was fine but not amazing.
For the price (assuming you get a good rate) i can't imagine any thing of better value in London, which is why I have given this rating.

I booked this through expedia. On the initial page it said breakfast included, but once I had booked, that information was not on any of the confirmation info. I contacted expedia and was told breakfast was not included; I contacted the main number for Quality Hotels and was told that breakfast was included, and to have the hotel contact them if there were issues.

Breakfast was covered, no issues there. Be careful though, there are two buffets, and it wasn't clear to us on the first day that one was not included and cost 3 pounds extra.

Hotel staff is mostly foreign, but we never had any problems with people not speaking english well. However, we were attempting to drive there, and the poor girl at the front desk could not give directions to save her life. It took us an hour to find the place. But location is great for the subway (finchley road is in zone two, so you can buy the cheaper zone 1-2 day pass), and there are several nice japanese restaurants close by. Parking was fine as well. Car park was full when we arrived, so they had us park under one of the overhangs at the entrance--nice since it was well lit.

Elevator is quite old, but worked fine while we were there. Rooms are old but clean. I would stay again.

Breakfast was free when i booked online and was GREAT, but the room was quite shabby. i ordered a double bed (for 2 people) and what i got was not a double bed, or a queen sized bed, or a king sized bed, but rather two twin sized beds pushed together! there was a hard gap in the middle so i ended sleeping in the middle of 1 twin and my husband on the other.

the comforter/duvet was disgusting - blood stains, dirty, horrible. consquently i slept with only a sheet on all night.

the water pressure in the shower was good.

the lobby smelled very strongly of smoke, and so did everything around it.

the internet company which i purchased a voucher from was terrible - ordered 4 hours and only got 30 minutes!

parking was the only reason why i booked here - will look for another hotel next time.

Having stayed in several london hotels on business, I found this one to be very comfortable and the staff very friendly. It is slightly old fashioned but exceptionally clean and homely.

I was very annoyed that the Skelton people were so desperate to find something to complain about that they said the car park was scruffy. Come on!! Do you not have better things to do with your time?
I work in a hotel myself and you would not believe the number of people who book on the internet and don't pay for breakfast. Everyone please check this before you go!! and hotel staff are only doing their job by asking you to pay. Theses people obiously didn't have confirmation of this.

The hotel is in a very quiet residential area, however next to many excellent amenities, namely the large eating/entertainment complex only 10mins walk away.

In short, a haven of peace in the centre of London. Good value for money and well maintained.
