“Nice for the value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

We got a very nice discount (more than half the usual price) ad stayed only one night. For that value I can say it is a very nice and quiet hotel. The beds are very comfortable and everything seems to be new.

Not a bad hotel, nicely furnished, polite staff, all perfectly reasonable BUT no air conditioning in room. It was a warm July weekend and the heat when we entered the room was overpowering. it stayed that way from Friday to Sunday and the only way to relieve it was to have both windows wide open making the room very noisy, leading to little sleep. Traffic noise not too bad but there is the rear entrance to a branch of Nandos opposite. Despite the fact that this supposedly closes at 11 the staff hang around outside the door shouting. On Saturday night till 3am! Sounded like a drunken party with people going in and out of the door all the time and screeching coming from inside.

Breakfast is eyewateringly expensive at £18 for continental and £24 for cooked.

Room Tip: Take your own air-con.

Grange fitzrovia is a nice hotel 20 minutes walk from Oxford street. We chose it because it's close to the location of Batuke dance festival. The rooms are quite small and warm in summer and because of the noise from the street you cannot open a window during the night. They also empty the bins every morning which will wake you up even if you have your windows closed. We didnt try the breakfast but around the corner there is a small shop where you can buy sanwiches and other things to eat. You can make tea in the room. Because of the location we will stay here again when we go to batuke.

I stayed here for 1 night in June for a business meeting. Booked last minute at a ridiculous cost.. However it is in central london. Check in and check out were fairly painful.. Staff seemed to be new and very slow. Room was ok.. Not the smallest and not the best laid out. Shower screen was bizarre and seemed somewhat dangerous. Weather was hot and so was my room with no air con.. They did get me a fan though. Bar staff were ok.. Also new i think! The only positive i can think of were the breakfast staff.. Very efficient and despite being busy performed well.

Room Tip: Get air con

Although the room was spacious (room 007!) i had a number of problems:
- very dated and tatty
- TV so far away from bed, couldn't see it properly (no, I have glasses)
- plugs in places you wouldn't expect and not where you need them
- cracked toilet seat
- disjointed glass shower curtain I was worried would fall on toes in bath (reported but not fixed)
- iron leaking (was replaced)
- staff don't say hello even when you pass

Main issue was at £202 per night I expected a lot more and with breakfast at £25 per day I decided against the idea.. Won't be staying again am afraid unless refurb, price resolved....

I always like staying here if I'm down for business. It's close to our offices and I think it's a nice building too. The staff have always been helpful and the breakfast is great - so much choice from full English to cold fish including smoked salmon. Breakfast staff were very attentive and refilled drinks regularly. My only slight negative was that the last batch of scrambled egg was a bit wet but still a great breakfast.

We have stayed at the Grange Fitzrovia for 7 or 8 years. The location is excellent, the rooms adequately sized for London, and the service is very good. HOWEVER- the breakfast has gotten much worse through the years. While there is fresh whole fruit (apples, etc) the cut up fruit is all canned (Inexcuseable in June), the pastries industrial and heated in a microwave oven. The coffee is not drinkable. For the price they charge you should be able to get a decent cup of coffee and a fresh pastry. London has come a long way, but the Grange Fitzrovia has not. Don't bother to stay as there are many better choices in London
