“excellent budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2010

We decided to try the Bedford having stayed previously at the Royal National, and were pleasantly surprised. Arriving at mid-day we were immediately offered a room by the pleasantly mannered receptionist.
We requested a room at the back and had no problems. On the 6th floor; twin beds (with sheets and plenty of extra blankets - we're 'oldies' so duvets not always welcome!); even a trouser press; plenty of tea & coffee supplies; also bathroom 'smellies' and bath towels; clean cotton sheets; two wardrobes with plenty of hangers; very quiet (yes, sometimes you do hear next door but have stayed in 4/5 star hotels and had noisy neighbors!)
Breakfast, first day at 7am (needed early start as visiting Houses of Parliament) was very good. Plenty of choice (scrambled as well as fried eggs), fruit juices, choice of oranges, grapefruit or figs, toast, numerous cereals and although it was busy I noticed that the chef kept 'topping-up' everything. Second day at 9am he was still adding freshly cooked bacon, sausage, eggs and bacon when the dishes were nearly empty!
Didn't have evening meals there so can't comment but had a drink which we took into the residents lounge which looks out onto the terraced garden. Too cold for us but I imagine it would be very pleasant in summer. Visited the Brunswick Shopping centre just down the road from Russell square tube station and admired the christmas lights and shops - no need to go to Oxford Street!
Very handy for tube stations and buses but equally close enough for us to walk back in the evenings. Handy newsagent, tesco, had nice meal at the italian restaurant a few doors down from the hotel, plenty of coffee shops and although Southampton Row is very busy we found this hotel, although a bit scruffy-looking from the outside, clean and nice and quiet, and would definitely stay here again.

“Value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2010

It was my first time in Bedford, been in Imperial and President hotels before but honestly I under-estimated this hotel based on the low hotel room rates compared to the other two.

Though the Imperial and President hotels are closer to Russel Tube than Bedford, I found this hotel less crowded. I didn't wait for long for having my breakfast and the view from the restaurant was lovely with a nice fountain and green area. The lounge is equally quite and nice and you can relax for sometime there or even use the wifi. Wifi is available in all rooms and for free which was very convenient to me as I usually use my laptop for checking in and booking my seat before departure.

The staff in the reception were very friendly and helped me with some tour advices (brochures available on the reception desk). Even when I had a little problem with the bathroom tab they asked someone to fix it and they moved me into another room.

I was only not happy with the noise, not the noise from outside the hotel but in the room next to you. Another advise never stay in a room near the elevator, this was my second room and I found that the last room at the end of the corridor is more quite.

Otherwise, I liked staying in this hotel. The room service in the other two hotels were knocking my door everyday early morning to clean my room especially on Saturdays as it seems they leave by 12pm and honestly I found this annoying to me as this was happening almost on daily basis. So I highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a comfortable budget hotel.

“Great location for Theatres”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2010

Had a 2 night break here. Staff friendly. & helpful. Typical 3 star Hotel. Room was clean (although the bed was on wheels?). Breakfast was fine & plentiful. Great location within walking distance for Theatres & Covent Garden. Close to the British Museum. Good value.

“Excellent friendly hotel with restful residents lounge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2010

I stayed here as a solo female business traveller. Hotel gave me an upgrade without asking. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room furniture was old style but kept well. Lots of hot water in the shower... bathroom tiny but well equipped for one person. Pleanty of towels, soap and shampoo etc.
Nice quiet residents lounge with access to walled garden, would be lovely in the summer. Reasonable breakfast with the usual fry or cereal. Very close to tube station and on a main road so no walking down back streets. Very easy to walk to covent garden area, west end and shops on Oxford/Regent Street.

“Good place in Central London”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2010

It is value for money in Central London with easy access to tubes, shopping area, restaurants, coffee shop etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was large compared to regular Central London Hotels.
The only issue is the road facing rooms are a bit noisy (traffic sound).
