Okay, I have eaten at this place perhaps 10-15 times now, the latest being a week ago.
Shayona is a vegetarian Indian restaurant situated in the car park of the Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, north London. There is an attached supermarket selling Indian vegetables, dried spices, rice etc together with a takeaway counter selling Indian sweets and eggless cakes and ice cream.
If you are coming on the weekend I suggest booking early - it is often packed. I think last orders are at 21:30 so it's not one for the nightowls.
The decor is Indian middle class posh - the kind of decor you see in upper middle class restaurants in Delhi. It's all very clean. Absolutely spotless.
The service is quick - you don't deal with the same waiter throughout but there is always someone around to take your order / help.
The food - well it is a treat. A mix of south indian specialities - idlys, dosas etc together with tandoor snacks, chaats and bhel. All very nice. Mains are mainly Gujrati based dishes - all very tasty.
Remember this is a strict vegetarian place - no egg, meat etc... In fact, no garlic or onions - so suitable for Jains as well.
The final bill is always very reasonable. £10-15 / head including (non alcoholic) drinks.
So if you are after cheap and tasty Indian food in a nice clean setting this is the place for you. The food tastes proper desi rather than the usual Bangladeshi fare which haunts British high streets.
