“Informal and different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013 via mobile

If you looking for a different high tea experience this is the place. Off the beaten track but very enjoyable.
Rest assured there are no dainty portions here and the food is of good quality.
We sat outside literally on the Thames.
Service was friendly.

“Brilliant afternoon tea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

We loved our afternoon tea at Rafayel on the Left Bank, and felt it provided great value for money. Excellent quality ingredients used to make very well-presented and tasty food. Lovely delicate items, just as an afternoon tea should be. Lovely to sit on the riverside.

“This is a top class restaurant with only the very best ingredients”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

We had lunch and evening meal at the Rafayel, it was that good, so ate again here the following evening. The staff are a credit to the restaurant, very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and they use only the very best ingredients. The Aberdeen Angus, fillet steak is to die for. And the chicken tikka starter is succulent, just superb. Now we have eaten here, we will definitely return and hope to stay in the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to visit London as you have everything on your doorstep.

“Pleasant surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

Having read so many negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised when I visited for afternoon tea.

All staff were pleasant and attentive.

Sandwiches a bit large and rather dry but everything else was enjoyable.

Would recommend if taking advantage of a 'voucher deal' which makes it a pleasant inexpensive afternoon out overlooking the river with the added bonus of the occasional helicopter take off and landing!

“Second visit no better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

As you'll see below, I came a while back for a hen party. A friend then also bought me afternoon tea a couple of months later as a birthday treat (unaware I had been before). As last time, the food was generous, albeit a little less impressive than last time as some of the cakes weren't as good.
However, yet again it was the service that let this place down. We waited an age before anyone came to speak to us. When she did, it was to tell us there was no barman and would i mind champagne instead of a cocktail. I said yes - I don't drink champagne - which was greeted with a pained expression and I really had to push that I was not willing to accept a substitution. At this point, she wandered off with no further word - we were unsure what this meant! My cocktail eventually arrived (along with a glass of champagne for my friend, who actually also wanted a cocktail and whose request for her origina order was hardly dealt with graciously) Gradually our food arrived but we had our cakes for 10 minutes and eventually has to ask to be able to order our tea. Throughout the meal the staff were generally disintersted and appeared rushed off thier feet, which was interesting given the place was half empty.
For a five star establishment they really need to up their game on the service - how many more reviews need to say the same thing?
