I have been a member and have been attending the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for 7 years now. First time I attended was in 2005. Last year I thought it was rather crowded. But this year, it was ridiculous!! It was hard to enjoy the day since it was sovery crowded, that at times, the visitors could not go forward, since the BBC was filming the showcased arrangements, we were crammed and bottlenecked and at one time, we were told by the staff to go a different route, even though we were there to see the prize winning exhibit that was being filmed, so we, the visitors had no access to it. I paid 72 pound for two RHS Chelsea Flower show entrance tickets and booked my tickets far in advance from Germany, yet the BBC crew were given priority. I do not know, why those film crews can't film the exhibits after the park closes to the public, after 6 p.m. There is plenty of sunshine and light for filming. I was rather dissapointed for being told to go a different route, without being able to see the display. It is not like you can return back to the front of the park and start all over again, since the visitors traffic is so dense. There wasn't enough places to sit and enjoy the rather expensive food being sold at the show grounds. There wasn't enough WC's either, after waiting in line at one of them, I was told that "it was close due to a flow problem". The lines were long at all the WC stops, to food stands. People had to sit on the grass in the fields, to listen to music or rest, since there wasn't enough seating for the masses. I think they must have sold too many tickets, more tickets than the show ground's capacity. I think that from now on they should either limit the amount of tickets sold, or extend the Chelsea Flower Show to more than a week. It is rather dissapointing, having spent the time, the money and the effort to come from overseas to attend the show, not to be able to see some exhibits, or to be shuffled in the crowd.

Please do come and visit the Royal Hospital Chelsea when the Chelsea Flower Show is not on - the Royal Horticultural Society take over only a part of the Royal Hospital grounds for a few months and the show is only on for one week (we are completely separate organisations), but for the rest of the year the Royal Hospital is a beautiful, tranquil place, which the Chelsea Pensioners call their home.
We hope to see you here soon!
