“do not bother visiting, there are so many better options”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

visisted the market mainly cause of the ratings on trip advisor.
it might be the biggest street markt anywere, but they stuff which are on
offer, is basicly just junk - there is no other way to put it.

the whole market scene made a very cheap impression, to put it politely.

much better options are the old spitalfield or borough market.

“A real market not the posh "farmer market" type!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

This is still very much a real market not a fancy overpriced, farmer market. There is some good international food, fresh vegetables but also lots of c_+p! They also seem to be selling clothes that people worn in 1980s. Watch you valuables, some shabby characters!

“a busy and not particularly pleasant market”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

Worth a visit if you are in the area but not worth coming out of central London for. Watch your wallet. Busy, crowded and generally rather unpleasant if you don't like crowds. Some nice Victorian architecture if you look up.

“Avoid at all costs.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

Having lived in Walthamstow very near the market for six years just thought I'd share my views. The market is overpopulated with lots of stalls selling the same c@*p, if there was one of each type there would be less than a dozen sellers. The stalls that sell 'Fresh' fruit and veg are fine if you are going to use it that day but by the next morning it will all have gone off, that's why at the end of Saturday anything not sold is just dumped on the street for the council to clean up. If you want cheap clothes that fall apart then you will also find a huge selection but then there are plenty of shops where at least you will get a receipt. You should feel sorry for the shop owners who for the days that the market is on have the front of their shops blocked by stalls with only a small gap between.

“The 8th Wonder of the World”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

If you like a busy buzzing market you will love it here. There's literally something for everyone. Start at the 99p Store at the East End of the High Street and work your way west.

This place is particularly awesome for gifts and vegetables. I got a great selection of underwear from Hazeem's stall near the Mall. My Mum loved her red nylon knickers and my Dad loved his Kevin Clein socks. I bought myself 30 tins of no-brand meat from another stall - all for just 20p! Bargain!.

Do have a wander around the adjoining streets too and see how the wonderful people of Walthamstow live. Did you know it's fashionable in 'da stow' to have a mattress in your front garden?

Walthamstow Market has the highest number of 'Greggs' the bakers in any one area and the Lidl even sells cow ploughs! Amazing! I bought two. My favourite shop of all though was 'Well Wear' opposite Argos at the West end.

According to the Walthamstow Tourist Board, the market can been seen from The Great Wall of China. Totally amazing!
