Owner description: A waterside museum of London's canals and the Victorian ice trade, set in a former ice warehouse of the 1860s. It tells the colourful story of the canals, their people, horses and trade. Peer down into a huge ice well, uniquely preserved, and learn about the ice trade. Go inside a narrowboat cabin, meet the horse, and watch archive film. Free MP3 audio tour for download from the museum website for your own player.

“Ice ice canal by the Yorkshire lasses”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

The museum is near kings cross and for us the entrance fee was in with the London pass but think it was about £4 for adult so not over the top......

It isn't massive but was good... information on two floors about the canal and there is a lot about the ice trade... We visited as we used to own a canal boat so always find these museums interesting.... Would I go out of my way to visit then probably.....no but if in the area it would kill an hour or so....

“Wonderful little gem of a museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

Excellent presentation of life along the canals of London. The staff took the time to explain the entire canal system to me as well as what living on a canal boat today entails. Wonderful experience......

I am disappointed that you were disappointed. Our guides often do tell people about the ice trade because many visitors are unfamiliar with it and find it interesting. About three-quarters of the museum is devoted to London's canals so it is certainly not the case that there is nothing there to learn. There are two floors of exhibitions about them. I feel sure that you missed quite a lot on your visit so I would encourage you to come back again and see the rest of the museum.

“very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We had previously walked the Regents canal from Little Venice to Kings Cross so felt this would be ideal to expand our knowledge. We particularly enjoyed the info about the ice house and Gatti.Only downside was being unable to watch the video due to 2 classes of school children who were using the area.It is great to be reminded of London's illustrious canal/river/dock heritage.Next time we visit London we plan to walk the rest of the canal from here to Limehouse. A cafe on site would be good!
