“Stay somewhere else.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

This is a below average hotel. The service and attitude of the staff is lacking, with a few exceptions. The central heating is set to maximum at all times and leaves the hotel including ones room(which cannot be individually regulated) very unpleasant. It has a decent location, however there are better hotels nearby for similar money. The breakfast is poor - do not pay for this if not included.

The clientele seem more on the back-packer "let's get wasted" lines- be warned for noise and unruly behavior that is difficult to escape.

Stay elsewhere.

The Tavistock is rated a 3-star hotel, but I would rate it as good as you could expect a 3-star to be. It has an ideal location, especially if you are travelling via Euston station, as it is less that 10 mins walk away. Nearest tube is Russell Sq (4-5 mins walk), & buses to West-End pass hotel every 7-10mins. The staff are very friendly. The rooms are very clean, & beds comfortable Our room contained a fairly new television, & had tea making facilities. Breakfast was superb, full English or Continental. Wifi was only available in foyer & on the slow side, which may cause a problem if you need to use internet a lot. As I said, it is a 3-star hotel, it doesn't have a swimming pool or sauna, nor do the rooms have a fridge or trouser press, however, if you are a normal, average couple or family it a great place to stay, and we will definitely use again on our next visit to the Capital.

Went for a 2 night stay for grand daughters christening. Good value package included return trains to Edinburgh. Good central location. Friendly staff, wholesome breakfast. my dear old mum left her bag with passport and money in the restaurant and they phoned straight up to return it. It has a big turn over of guests mainly continental but for such a central location very good value indeed.

I stayed here for 2 nights in December. Reasonably price (for central London). Rooms are basic. The heating was very powerful and made the room so hot that I once had to open the window during the night.

Breakfast is pretty good - especially the bacon. I recommend getting the English breakfast option.

The hotel is only about 7 minutes walk from Russell Square Tube station.

My room (608) had a nice big bath tub. The water power was good and the temperature was hot.

When you check out, if you want to leave your luggage at the hotel and collect it later, you can leave it in a securely locked room behind the porter's desk. They charge you just 50p for that.

One thing which was a bit strange was at check in I was asked for my passport number. I'm a British citizen. When I asked the young man if it was necessary he said it was. I'm sure most British people don't carry their passport everywhere around the UK. Luckily I had it on me so it wasn't a problem. It was just a bit weird.

Just returned from another great stay at the Tavistock. My rating is based on value for money, location, cleanliness, staff friendliness and breakfast and other facilities. Guests should not expect a 5 star luxury hotel for the budget price, but everything you need is provided by this hotel and I have stayed there many times over several years and have always been very pleased. The location is second to none, close to Russell Square tube and the British Museum etc.

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable and even ones overlooking the street are very quiet. Tea and coffee making...

I stay regularly at this hotel as it is very close to Euston station (5 mins walk)
Totally satisfactory for a short stay, the rooms are clean & comfortable, if a little old fashioned.
Not five star, but if you just need a bed and a decent breakfast for a very good price, look no further !

Nice clean hotel, staff are friendly. Housekeeping efficient, although the rooms are on the small side, (really small). Breakfast was good, variety a little slim, as there was no cheese!
Excellent location of hotel. Close to all the major sites in London. I walked with my daughter to the British Museum, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, and Trafalgar square!
Had a wonderful time, the hotel was a good place to come back to after a hectic day of shopping and sightseeing.
