I have to admit that until this trip I was a hostel virgin, and while I think I'll still opt for some hotel luxury, if you're within a group looking to do things on a budget this hostel is ideal.
We were in town for the Olympics, and with St Pancras station, where the trains to the Park left from, a mere 5 minutes walk away, plus one of our gang of 6 being a YHA member, this made perfect sense. So it was that we found ourselves in a room with three bunk beds, a little floorspace, a couple of cupboards, one window out on the busy Euston Road, and a reasonably large bathroom (with shower cubicle rather than bath).
And y'know what, it was clean and comfortable. Not sure what else you could ask for really. Okay, so if you're on the Euston Road side you've got to expect some noise, and the walls aren't entirely soundproof. But I was surprised that I fitted into the bed (I'm 6'3" and you get used to dangling feet), and the shower, while a strange plastic box tacked onto the bathroom, weas perfectly serviceable.
The reception area is fresh and modern, with helpful and friendly staff, and a small bar/cafe area beside it, with a big screen tv and a few internet cafe terminals. Breakfast was in this area, and it really wasn't half-bad. A token added onto the room price gave you a breakfast 'basket'. You picked up your basket and added a pastry, cereal, a piece of fruit, a yoghurt, and the coup de grace, a hot sandwich (bacon or sausage if memory serves). Oh, and freely topped up fruit juice and coffee.
The location is great, minutes walk from King's Cross/St Pancras and therefore also the Underground; and there are a few Boris Bike stations nearby as well. The British Library is across the road (there's a great cafe in there) and the Wellcome Museum near as well.
