The evening didn't start well - the kids wouldn't settle, the weather was brutal, the journey awful (far too much time spent standing about in the rain trying to flag a cab) - so we arrived at the restaurant late, cranky and decidedly damp. The location is certainly less than inspiring - but previous reviewers said that we shouldn't let this put us off, so we didn't.
We shook off the rain, and our bad moods and went in. I am so glad we did. The food was absolutely outstanding. We had vegetable dumplings (momos) to start - we had been tipped off by the Trip advisor community to order them well in advance, and like the obedient little animals we are, we did. They were fabulous. We also had a dry chicken starter which was extremely flavoursome if, perhaps, a little overcooked. If I was back again (or, rather, when I am back again) I would (will) have lamb momos or lamb chops. We moved onto a lamb shank and a dry chicken dish for mains. The lamb shank was the star of the show. It was, quite simply, one of the best dishes I have had. The chicken was excellent too, totally different flavours to the starter, spicier and also, much more tender. But we had ordered with our bellies rather than our brains, and at this stage we were suffering from an excess of meat, so the return visit will have a veggie dish to accompany the lamb shank. We had a garlic naan and some rice on the side, both were fine, but surplus to requirements as the lamb shank came with rice. So, although I managed to make a glutton of myself with the naan, the rice was largely untouched.
The restaurant itself was busy but not full - that was probably due to the football matches on that evening and the horrendous weather. The decor is pleasant enough, but pretty much in the style of any local restaurant. Service, for us, was friendly and efficient without being rushed, although perhaps some pointers about ordering (suggesting that a sea of carbohydrates on the side is unnecessary maybe) would have been very welcome. The wine list is limited, as you would expect for this type of place, but what we had was fine.
To sum it up - the food is what it is all about here. It's wonderful, and it more than made up for the rotten start to the evening. If you're in the vicinity, or even if you're not, and you want something special to eat, try it.
