Many restaurants do good food, and Valentina provided food adequately flavoured and well thought out. Their menu is varied and there always seems to be something for everyone. The true test of a restaurant i feel is their service. . . .waiters should know their menu and read out specials. They should be able to suggest alternatives when a certain ingredient is not to a customers liking. I didn't like the idea of the celery risotto served with the stuffed chicken. When asked if potatoes could be substituted, the answer was no. Now totally understand that this is the norm when i ask for muscles to be taken out of a seafood risotto if all ingredients are portioned and measured, but how hard is it to substitutes the risotto for chips or rosemary potatoes given they are additional side options on the menu?
Specials are displayed hung on little pieces of paper on the wine bottles (very easily overlooked), i didn't realise until i already ordered . . . . . waiter didn't suggest the Duck when asked if there was any other meat on the menu apart from Chicken and steak.
Dessert was tasty, but description of Apple Crumble suggested apple compote with a lovely crumble on top. . . . . . i got an apple tart. Shortcust pastry on the bottom with sliced apples cooked in the middle. scrumptious . . . . but since when did apple crumble turn into an apple shortcrust pie? I mentioned this to the waiter who old looked rather oddly at me with a look of "what do you want me to do about it".
I have always loved the food on this place, and this has not been my first visit. . . . . but the lack of a warm reception and caring touch to the service has left a bitter taste . . . . . Such a pity.
