4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Stayed here with a group of friends this weekend and we were very pleased with it. The rooms were lovely, comfortable beds and nice views out to the river. It would be nice to have a couple more sachets of coffee and milk in the room and three of the four rooms booked didn't even manage plastic tooth mugs (what do I drink my night time Baileys out of??). The breakfast was good, plentiful, hot and fresh and included in our theatre package price which was a very good deal - although quite a way from the theatre district but the DLR and underground were good links. For anything going on at Excel or the o2 I would recommend staying here - it's even got decent parking available!

Hello EsmeWX,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write. At Aloft London Excel we know how treasured those short getaways are for a trip to London and a special event. We try our very best to make it worthwhile by offering high style and the latest technology at an affordable price.
Our sassy space at Aloft; including splash, the re:mix lounge and the loft-like guestrooms make the hotel very stylish and unique. And our quality beds and linen make for a comfortable stay and all our fans agree with it too.

I am thrilled to read that you enjoyed our cool urban space and will be recommending us to others.
Thank you for your lovely review! We hope to see you again soon.

I took a risk by staying outside of Central London. The hotel is a little far from the tourist attractions, but easily accessible by DLR and the Underground. It was about 15 minutes to Central London. The hotel amenities were great. Geared more to a mid-20 to thirty something crowd (I'm 60). I was traveling with my 25 year old. It is directly outside the EXCEL Center. Great if you're there for a convention. There are no good places to eat within walking distance. However, Canary Wharf is a short train ride away. If you're familiar with NY, it's a lot like the Battery Park area of NY. Many nice restaurants that range in price. A local grocery store that reminds you of Whole Foods on another scale. It's a grocery store on the street level and has clothing, etc. on the upper levels. While we took a private car to get the hotel, we went by Underground getting back to Heathrow. It was a long ride, but much cheaper and not at all complicated. Try not to get on the trains during rush hour when the trains are very crowded. I would definitely stay again.

Visited the hotel on Jan 1st until 5th, excellent transport links and very easy to find. Wonderful front of house receptionist made us very welcome at 2.30 in the morning ;)
Tasty full English breakfast with all the trimmings of breads cereals, very nice.
Liked the card system for operating the lift made us feel extra secure, great pool, gym, sauna, .steam rooms, very comfortable place to stay Stayed on the dock side lovely sunrises, no problem with city airport noise. Recommend The Aloft highly *****

Room Tip: We stayed in 721 dock side

Hello Jenny b,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your recent stay. Great to hear that one of our team members really made the difference with the warm welcome they gave you upon check-in. They are always striving to make our guest’s stay memorable with their sassy Aloft-vibe and your positive comments will definitely be shared with the team. We are celebrating!

Our rooms are the quietest rooms on the ExCeL campus and yet so near London City Airport, you may see the plane, but you do not hear it.

Thank you for your review and for sharing your comments.
We hope to be able to welcome you back soon, for another easy-breezy stay at Aloft London Excel.

The hotel is nice, room is clean, very close to the DLR (one of London Underground lines) and very stylish. Good aspects are over. At the check in your card is charged 150 GBP (my room was prepaid) just to ensure they are covered in case I damage something. I didn't really like such a welcome. The room is average size. Wifi coverage was good only in half of the room (bathroom) while there was almost no coverage on the bed and at the desk. Room breakfast items (coffee etc close to the kettle) are not always restored so in the evening you have to call reception complaining coffee or tea is missing. Not only... They have no-one to deliver missing items to the room hence you need to go downstairs to get them. What really disappointed me was being charged 7,50 GBP for a 5 minutes call to a toll free number. It was my fault not having read the charge per minute on the leaflet close to the phone but I really felt this was a rip-off, a free number is free and you cannot charge 1,50 GBP per minute. This charge together with the initial deposit made my feel like if I were a sitting duck rather than a customer. Will never go there again. There are many hotels where staff really makes you feel welcome.

Hello CannaLucente,
Thank you so much for your honest review. It is important to share those experiences and we value the feedback and thank you for taking the time to write.

The team and I are very disappointed that we have not been able to live up to your expectations and failed to show you Aloft London Excel in the best possible light.

We apologise for the issues with WIFI coverage in the room and for the fact that the pre-authorization policy was not explained correctly. At Aloft London Excel we take pride in a transparent & credible approach when it comes to handling all financial transactions and we have clear guidelines and control measures in place to ensue this. Upon check in we ask all our guests for a £25.00 pre-authorization per night to allow you to take full advantage of all hotel facilities and charge to the room. The pre-authorization will be released on departure.
We will take the feedback on board and follow up with the team and hope this does not deter you from visiting us again. I would also value the opportunity to speak to you personally. Please contact me at any time convenient.
With smiles from the Docklands.

Stayed here for the Doctor Who 50th celebration, booked a double room for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. We were told after booking that the Hotel didn't offer family rooms but when we phoned the Hotel, they said it was fine and they would put an extra bed and travel cot in the room. On our arrival, after 6 hours of driving, we were booked in quickly and everything was in our room.
The room was spacious, obviously would have been more so without the extra bed (blow up bed) and cot. Our bed was very comfortable and 2 full length windows through which we had a view of London, looking out towards the city (over the DLR). The bathroom area is a separate area and a really nice space.
We stayed for 2 nights as my fiancé and son had tickets to the convention. My fiancé has stayed previously for a Star Trek convention (yep, he's a geek). The Excel is less than a minute across a concourse at the hotel, possible direct access maybe? A DLR is right next to the Hotel too so ideal for going into Central London.
We were lucky enough to meet Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Peter Davison who were all staying at the Hotel. We got pics with them and they made a fuss over our 4 year old who was completely bowled over by the whole experience.
Would recommend this Hotel, it is a very nice 4 star with everything you need.
Will definitely be returning!

I was working at the O2 across the river so this was a nearby choice. My family stayed with me so we had adjoining rooms. Staff were very helpful and rooms were great, especially for the price. We all had the grab and go breakfast which was really good as I was up very early one day and late the next so my wife grabbed it and brought it up. The restaurant was disappointing with dull tasteless food and there isn't much nearby. However it is really easy to get to via the DLR being only 100m from the stop. A successful stay but you need to have a reason to be in this part of town!
