This turned out to be the secret room I had booked through last minute.com and I am pleased with what I got.
Location - the hotel itself s a bit out of the way from the main attractions, although that doesn't bother me as its a lot quieter. Although, tower bride is only a 10 minute walk away + tower hill and aldgate tube station is only 5 minutes up the road with a direct line to Westminster (big Ben, London eye etc). There is also a Weatherspoons over the road from the hotel, so good if you want a meal / drink but want to get away for a bit.
Check in - Check in on weekends is after 3pm, but I had arranged to arrive at 11:30am and drop my bags off (so I could go sight seeing while I waited). However, on arrival the hotel let me check in early and also gave me a free upgrade from a superior double to an executive double.
Room - decent size room and looked very modern. Over all the room was perfect with smart Samsung tv, sofa and rainfall shower, but there where a few things (which I didn't formally report) that I wouldn't of expected from a 5* hotel. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, plus there was the off knock on the wooden furniture. The bathroom was also a bit dusty round the bath and on the glass shelves. Due to the fact I got this room this room at 40% of the cost I didn't complain, but if I had paid full price I would expect it o be spotless!
Facilities - good bar and restaurant and the leisure facilities are great. Decent gym with lots of machines and free weights. The pool is the biggest if seen in a hotel, so was good to be able to actually swim rather than doing 1 metre strokes.
Breakfast - I've seen people complain about the price on these reviews, but most have not experienced it. £20 does seem a lot, but I think it's cheap for what you get. Unlimited tea, coffee, water and juice ( of which there are 6 including orange, apple and cranberry). The continental breakfast has lively warm fresh baked pastries, nice tender cold meats and a good range of cereal and fruit. I also went for the cooked breakfast, which I loved! Succulent Cumberland sausages, crispy bacon and perfectly cooked scrambled egg. There is also mushrooms, grilled tomato and hash brown. Fair enough you can go to Weatherspoons over the road for £7, but the quality of the food isn't the same (and I've had Weatherspoons food before and it's just microwave food in my eyes).
Staff- friendly and speak good English.very helpful and not intimidating at all.
Overall I have been really impressed with this hotel and will be recommending it to my friends (but I will defiantly be booking it through lastminute.com now I know which one it is ) ;-)
