“A wonderful place to celebrate!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Wonderful airy light restaurant - a pleasant escape from the awful weather outside! Lovely barman recommended a sparkly and have us nibbles on the house when I mentioned it was my MSc graduation! Venison with caramelised yogurt was beautiful, as were the truffle polenta chips and braised octopus. Wouldnt rush back for the twice cooked chicken... We had an organic wine from Spain with a very orange tinge... It was delicious! Thank you Nopi!

“Small plates rule!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We had an early reservation which was good because by six the place was almost filled. The small plates were delicious and change daily. The portions were not small and we would have been satisfied with 5 dishes or two of us. The venison was outstanding as was the stuffed eggplant and octopus with piquillo peppers. The wine list was interesting although on the high side. The service was excellent and the atmosphere modern and sleek. If you like sharing, this is a great spot.

“It delivers...but..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

NOPI comes with high expectations and it delivers these in so many ways. The frustrating thing is we left with a feeling that they had got something over on us, and that's not a good feeling to leave with. The good stuff is... great. Spot-on design. Warm welcome. Buzzy crowd. NIce view of the crowd at most tables. All good. The menu is what you expect from Ottolenghi and you do really want to order it all. Delicious stuff. The only problem is that it is 'just' a little cheeky on price in certain areas. Now, let's be clear - nobody is here for a cheap meal, and nobody is here to save money. But when you read a menu and see a few things that wrangle, then you begin to wonder. Not a good feeling. All that aside, the food delivers. Yes it is wonderful and yes it is what you came to Ottolenghi's restaurant for. But I couldn't get away from the impression that Ottolenghi was now more interested in squeezing a few more pounds out of each dish than it merited, and frankly that took away from the whole experience. We returned for breakfast (yes they do breakfast!) and it was the same - maybe only £1 too much for a croissant but it still wrangled. There's a thin line on certain items on a menu that indicate something is not quite right and I don't think they are right here. Food is great, place is great, buzz is great, but I'm at two minds about going back as the price structure suggests the owner is now more interested in money.

“It's never disappointed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

Whether I've sat upstairs or down, the food and atmosphere at Nopi are fantastic. I do prefer the vegetable and fish dishes to the meat. The tastes and combinations are sublilme. Of course there is going to be the odd dud. Was there late Feb and had an unmemorable Puy lentil dish, but then again my husband enjoyed it.

The staff are always friendly and helpful. The wine list has plenty by the glass if you are not up for a full bottle, or finish the bottle and want one more glass!

You must go to the ladies toilets, they are spectacular.

“Refreshing, intriguing, excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

The restaurant has an opulent feel - white marble, gold and mirrors - befitting of its middle eastern style. We sat at the bar, which was great; busy & buzzy. Expertly made cocktails kicked off a terrific meal. The food is unique and packs so much exotic flavour and texture - dishes based on humble ingredients like puy lentils, carrots and aubergine are remarkably vibrant. The octopus and baby chicken dishes really delivered too. Definitely recommend having a dessert - very special. Nopi offers an opportunity for diners who want to flex their palates and explore exotic cuisines. Highly recommended. We'll become regulars.
