Owner description: Once the West End's most salubrious cottage, supposedly the haunt of Wilde, Orton, Gielgud & Crisp, CellarDoor is now London's cult cabaret bar, secreted beneath the Aldwych in a space just big enough for cats (both feline and human) to swing. We're open until 1AM seven nights a week with free acts from 9PM each evening including drag queens, femme fatales, magicians, crooners, burlesque beauties & more.

“Cocktails underground!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

It's hard to spot this bar, it's basically a door above some stairs leading down to a small bar. Something they host drag/comedy/singers, and other times it's just a good place to pull up for a fantastic cocktail or stylish shot. They also sell Snuff over the counter if your feeling particularly in the mood for a 1920's night out!

“cosy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

Very small hidden place... a bit overpriced !
Cocktails are really good and I enjoyed the show.

My only complains is that took ages to start and i came quite early to get a table and the show was advertised to start at 9:00 and started around 9:45 , they only sang 3 songs and went on a Break , that took aroung 30 min.... I was rushing to get the train back home!

“Great Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

One of my favourite bars in the Big Smoke, am a bit dismayed to read some of the latest reviews about shoddy bar-tending. I haven't been for a while but it's usually a very welcoming place with great staff. It's quirky without being pretentious and they do rock solid martinis. I usually sidestep my favourite tipple though and dive straight for the Southside Royale.

Will keep an eye out for falling standards next time I descend the hallowed staircase.

“Poor show chaps!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

Look, this is a really cool space, great Jazz on a Sunday night but seriously let down by the bartender!

Visited loads but won't be returning due to the unbelievably rude bartender, honestly wouldn't have minded his attitude if he had made us decent cocktails but, his negroni was too watery, tommy margarita too sweet and as for his cumber martini, well safe to say it tasted like shampoo. Have had all these here before made really well, but this time shocking.

On top of this as we were stood at the bar finishing our first round of drinks he snatched away the complimentary popcorn and ordered we buy more drinks.

Seriously, he even had the audacity to add service charge whilt we stood at the bar and ordered.

Such a shame but lots of better places to grab a vocktail in London without the awful arrogance if a terrible bartender.

I am really sorry you had this experience and would be grateful for any more details. I will discuss with the bartender concerned and would be grateful for any feedback re the attitude of other staff such as the Angel. In the meantime if you'd like to meet me at the bar for a complimentary cocktail and discussion I'd be very happy to meet with you there early one evening. There really is no excuse for rudeness or sloppy cocktails and I am very anxious to address these issues as they are contrary to all we try to achieve at CellarDoor.

“Warm and friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

We frequent this bar often, mainly because of the friendly and courteous staff. The fact that they make the best 'old fashioned' in London is just an added bonus. You have to come here at least once!
