About a 5 minute walk from Gloucester Road Tube ( Circle, District and Piccadilly,Lines so easy from Heathrow) and near shops and restaurants but on a very quiet, lovely residential street. The hotel is beautifully decorated without being pretentious and the staff are all extremely helpful - plug adapters, printing out boarding passes, getting luggage - nothing was any trouble and they truly seemed happy to be of help. We had 2 single rooms facing the back which were extremely quiet and though small, they weren't claustrophobic thanks to high ceilings and a well chosen colour scheme. The beds were very comfortable, the rooms were a perfect temperaure and the bathrooms were small but completely functional with very nice Penhaligon toiletries. Though almost identical, the higher floor room had a better view.
The lobby seating area is extremely comfortable with a fireplace and comfortable chairs and magazines and newspapers and we were served complimentary tea and cookies when we arrived which was very welcome after travelling. We also enjoyed our complimentary champagne there. Each afternoon a small snack (ie brownie or little cake) is delivered to each room (though one of our rooms was missed one day) which was a nice treat upon arriving back tired.
Unusually there is no breakfast room so most guests have their breakfast in their rooms - unless your breakfast is included or you hate to be in public before you've had coffee, you might want to walk out to the main road for breakfast - there is a Paul's, a Starbucks, a Pret a Manger - all serving hotter better coffee and toast. Even if you don't order breakfast, you still get a complimentary newspaper.
2 small things - the safe requires a credit card each time you want to open or close it which is a bore and I feared increased my chances of misplacing my card. To lock the bedroom door when in the room, turn the whole door handle - there is no separate lock (I searched for quite a while). But these are small things - I will go back to the Cranley when next in London.
