“Worth 1-2 stars at best. Tiny room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2011 via mobile

Service was poor. When we asked for more soap because they left tid bits in the tub, they left one tiny bar that wasn't even worthy for a hand wash. No Internet and they have one computer that works in there business center that closed at 8. The room was about as big as a postage stamp. The concierge was about as helpful as the yellow pages. The area was dead after 7 pm. You have to take the metro out of the area to find an open business. The water in the shower will scald you if you flush the toilet or use the sink. The only good thing about the hotel was the bed comfort. Way too much money for the hotel, but thank god I booked it on Hotwire and saved. They call themselves 4 or 5 star but more like 2.5 star. Definitely would recommend staying elsewhere.

We stayed for four nights at this hotel recently and asked for a room with a bath in advance as we enjoy a good soak after a long day walking the parks and streets of London. The location is excellent and is easily reached from tube or bus with plenty of restaurants nearby and shopping on the King's Road, Chelsea is a ten minute walk with Knightsbridge 15 minutes in the other direction; so great in that department. We were given a room with a bath but it has to be said the room was small and the bath was smaller, we got the distinct impression it was a single room with a double bed fitted into it. The other issue was the absence of sufficient electric plugs with phones and computers etc the two sockets were wholly inadequate as they had to facilitate the TV as well.

The hotel is billed as 4 star which is stretching it a bit, we got the room for just over £100 per night on Hotwire and that rate I felt it was too much for what you get. The staff were however fine and we had a great time and beautiful weather in London but the room was ahuge let-down for the hotel. Having said that we heard an american lady arrive as we left and she said it was her tenth visit to the hotel, maybe we just got the last room in the house !!

Room Tip: Ask in advance whatever your preferance and the staff will try to help

This is a lovely hotel, in a great location. Our room was spacious and very comfortable, but I do feel this hotel lacks the qualities I would expect for such an expensive hotel, claiming to be 4 stars. The reception staff were not very attentive or helpful, except at night time - the night porter was great! The rooms had no complimentary toiletries (although the hand and body soap dispensers were of high quality), and the tea making facilities were meagre - we only had 3 sachets of sugar, and when we phoned and asked for more, were brought another 3! You shouldn't have to pay for wi-fi in a hotel of this quality - let alone £5 an hour, and I think the idea of paying £10 extra per day for the privilege of sitting in a lounge area is ludicrous. I have already paid to stay in your hotel, so should have all of the privileges included in that cost. There didn't seem to be any room service on offer - or if there was they had failed to put that information in the room (there was no information in our room at all). All in all I was disappointed with the service, but did enjoy staying in such a great location, with such a lovely room.

We stayed her this weekend for remberence weekend. The reception staff were helpful and the rooms nice. I liked the location in south kensington, there is a tube stop just down the road which is great, however if you dont like the tube, taxis are pricey into town, friends who used the cabs paid £22 and £19.50 into Covent garden which is expensive if you use cabs each day. The tube was £13 for the both of us and we used it day and night which kept costs down. if you dont like the tube stay nearer to the centre of london. We had dinner friday evening, it was cold and the beef fatty and very pink which put alot of our friends off. Breakfast was nice but the service awful, some of our party were left waiting for 45 mins when tables could have been cleared. Next day we waited 20 mins for them to bring out eggs, i think they could improve on this, afterall its only breakfast. Comfy beds, but would we stay again? No, better hotels are cheaper or similiar prices which Ive stayed in before. Nice area of London though and the bar prices are reasonable.

M y partner and i have just come home from a 2 night stay at the Regency, it was fabulous. From the minute we walked in the staff were extremely polite, helpful and smiling.Nothing was to much trouble whatevever we needed to ask advice about, directions, tube, buses etc they were very helpful. We had breakfast and wow it was excellent value for our money. Our room was a club room and was again excellent value for money, lovely fluffy bathrobes, nice shower gel ,plenty of tea, coffee etcThe concierge was the best i have ever come across in over 40 years of travelling He was a gentleman at all times. My partner was taking part in the Rememberance service at the Royal Albert Hall and we needed a hotel within walking distance,The Regency is in an ideal location,we will definatly be going back.

Room Tip: We had a club room and liked it

London is the city I love to hate, managing to be as expensive as Tokyo without the standard of service, as decrepit as New York without the adrenaline. Hence finding a hotel is always a struggle. I can't afford the top-end, the mid-tier is still expensive, and usually suffers all London's typical annoyances.

Anyway, enough moaning - finally The Regency squarely ticks the "reasonable hotel for a reasonable" price box. Location? Tick. On both the Picadilly and District & Circle Lines. Room? Tick. Despite having a classic outer facade, the guts have been ripped out and redone with a modern sensibility. Food? Who knows. You'd be mad to eat in a London hotel. Pick up breakfast from the Waitrose nearby and have dinner at Bumpkin or Gourmet burger.

That's all you need to know...

We stayed at the Regency Queensgate for he third time in September 2011. We had stayed in 2005 anbd 2008, and kept returning because of the location and the pricepoint of the hotel. Each stay became a bit less impressive. This time, the hotel was completely changed into a more sleek, modern, marble and chrome from the more "English Country" feel - still nice, still great location, but just not as comfortable and friendly. Our room had a view of the back of the property onto alley rooftops, which was very disappointing, since we were staying for a week.

One day, as I was walking through the lower level to get to the computer area, I was admonished by a manager, and made to go up the stairs, then back down, so I could go through the lobby. An unnecessary requirement in my opinion; but fortunately I do not have a problem with stairs. We were also scolded for leaving out of the side door, instead of the front door by the lobby when we went out in the mornings. It wasn't after hours, and it was out of the way to always go through the lobby.

To top it off, a friend had to cancel her room at the Regency because of travel problems with Greece. Because she did not give 24 hours notice, they would not let her cancel without charging her for a night's stay. Even though she explained that this was our third trip, they would not help her. We will not stay here again, they've become too much like a large, uncaring chain, I'm sad to say.
